Pharmacy Technician
Specialty Pharmacy and the successful candidates will be responsible for: placing outbound and taking inbound calls, scheduling specialty meds orders, obtaining and documenting clinical and demographic patient information, checking level of coverage and explaining benefits and co-pay, contacting MD offices for refills and clarification, processing orders in CATS. This position is responsible for reading, interpreting, and entering prescriptions into computer system. Technicians are also responsible for forwarding questionable prescriptions to a Pharmacist, and completing and resolving prescriptions diverted to the clinical intervention area. Must be able to complete and translate incomplete prescriptions diverted. Complete appropriate described patient letter. Prepare prescriptions according to label provided, while verifying patient, address and medication information. Technicians also call physicians and health care providers offices for prescription clarification, substitutions, and formulary changes on a prescription order. Operates keyboard and computer screen to enter patient information and prescription information. May also assist the pharmacist with prescription clarification. Receives patient prescription order form and payment from order services. Verifies data on screen against data on source documents. Assigns barcode order envelope to each eligible order and routes ineligible orders to the Eligibility Department. Accurately reads and enters prescription information into the system (translations). Assist the Pharmacist in the phone call room, patient services and therapeutic intervention areas. Cross-trains into duties of pharmacy filling technicians. Must be able to meet specified production and quality standards as defined by the supervisor and/or manager. Be adept at reading and interpreting prescription terminology and medications. Candidates must be also able to recognize and identify commonly used generic drugs and the route of administration of these drugs. Candidates must also have the ability to understand and interpret Latin symbols commonly used on prescriptions medications and have the ability to write routine correspondence. Must possess excellent keyboarding skills for fast and accurate data entry. Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
