Weekend Hours: Shifts are 12-hours in length (1st shift - 6:00am-6:00pm) or (3rd shift - 6:00pm-6:00am) Req # (optional) 83700BR Explore a Career In ACL Co-Tenancy Job Description Obtains specimens from patients for laboratory analysis. Performs manual ordering or computer data entry. Functions as a liaison between the laboratory and patients/customers. Verifies patient identification in accordance with established protocol. Procures specimens from newborn, pediatric and adult patients according to established protocol. Ensures that specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing. Obtains specimens according to priority and scheduled draw times. Ensures completion of specimen collection functions according to protocol. Ensures patient safety and assesses patient reactions to specimen procurement. Obtains medical assistance when judged necessary. Represents the laboratory in a professional manner whether in person or by telephone and maintains good relations with internal and external customers. Responds to additional specimen procurement requests via pager or other means. Resolves specimen identification and/or requisition problems and clarifies requests. Receives and sorts specimens. Orders and verifies test requests. Assists with inventory and maintains supplies and equipment. Instructs employees and students in phlebotomy and manual ordering or data entry protocols. Attends all mandatory in-services. ------------------ Assists in improving the quality and efficiency of laboratory procedures, policies and processes. Ensures compliance with all accrediting agency standards. Maintains patient confidentiality in and out of the workplace. Maintains constructive and effective communication to enhance department performance. Contributes effectively to the achievement of team goals and objectives. Supports change efforts within the organization and contributes to their successful implementation. Maintains current knowledge of and complies with the contents of all pertinent policy and procedure manuals. Utilizes laboratory information systems appropriately. Documents appropriate information for quality assurance/improvement according to established protocol. Monitors workflow and makes necessary adjustments to complete work in an appropriate time frame. Demonstrates a willingness to work a flexible schedule which may include alternate site assignment. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care relative to the patient's age-specific needs. Performs other related duties as assigned.
