JOB SUMMARY: This individual opens photo facility and supervises all darkroom and studio areas. Mixes appropriate photographic chemicals for black and white darkrooms. Continually monitors photo labs and changes chemistry when exhausted. Distributes photographic supplies to faculty and students while maintaining computerized accounting procedures. Assists Dean with scheduling, training, and evaluating of work-study students. Provides assistance to faculty and students in the photography program. Services and maintains photographic equipment. Maintains photo area in a clean, orderly fashion. Keeps the photography area clean and organized. Provides basic repair on equipment and, if necessary, sends out equipment to appropriate vendor for detailed repair. Keeps track of all repairs out for service. Prepares bids for resale supplies. Orders all chemicals, supplies and parts. Enters purchase order requisitions into Datatel system. Completes the purchase order process in Datatel when supplies have been received. Orders instructional supplies for faculty. Calibrates printers and monitors regularly to ensure tolerance. Establishes and maintains computer records for inventory control, equipment maintenance and repairs. Maintains appropriate communications with the Dean. Works with the Environmental Health and Safety Officer to maintain up-to-date MSDS records. Gives individual and group tours of the photo program facilities as needed. Assists Dean and faculty in coordinating photography related college activities and events. Enforces college and program policies dealing with safety and other issues concerning the photography program. Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma/GED. Working knowledge of photography equipment. Working knowledge of photographic black and white films and photographs. Working knowledge of personal computers and applications of database and spreadsheet software. Ability to calculate ratio and proportions for photographic film and paper processing applications. Ability to work with diverse populations. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Preferences include knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, Capture One, and library software; working knowledge of professional ink jet printers; and an Associate’s Degree in photography or related area.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full time position opening with wages expected to be $11.07 per hour, a choice of retirement programs--IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA-CREF (defined contribution), and a comprehensive benefits program including health, dental, life, and LTD insurance; a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expense; holiday, personal, sick, and vacation leave.
