 Physical Coal Trader

Our client has a position within their Fuel Procurement Team for a Physical Coal Trader.   Ideally with a minimum of 12 months experience of international fuel procurement and logistics and an understanding and appreciation of global freight markets.

The Fuel procurement team is responsible for sourcing, securing and delivering all non-biomass fuel requirements – coke, petcoke and fuel oil.

The Physical Coal Trader’s principle function is to:

• Identify new initiatives to add value to the fuel portfolio.

• Negotiate and execute indigenous and international coal and oil trades.  Ensure that such trades comply with the relevant risk management policies.

• Manage and optimise fuel supply contracts

• Build strong relationships with external and internal counterparties and enhance the company reputation.

• Communicate plans effectively across functions, principally Generation, Materials Handling and Rick and Trading.

The successful candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and Experience:

• Educated to degree level or equivalent (preferably Economics or Business Studies) or proven experience in commodity trading

• Understanding of the operating characteristics of coal-fired generating assets, the importance of fuel quality and an understanding of financing coal trading principles

• A firm grasp of commodity risk management, credit issues and have traded financial coal products would be an advantage.

• Strong IT Skills

This role is to be based in Selby - Yorkshire.   International travel will be required.
