There is one vacancy, however; this announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies if they become available. This is a term appointment for which all qualified applicants with or without Federal status may apply and be considered. Appointment to this position, however, will not convey permanent status in the Federal service and will be for a period not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition. DUTIES: Back to top As a Physical Science Technician within the Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center, some of your specific duties will include: - Conducting field studies both onshore and at sea collecting and describing mineral deposits, sediments, and rocks. - Processing samples in the field. - Preparing samples in the lab for mineralogical, chemical, and isotopic analyses. - Assisting in preparing scientific reports, papers, and posters. Supervisor is frequently gone or unavailable. Often called upon to act as a "troubleshooter" in the solution of technical problems. Makes some decisions without guidance. Performs one or a few routine procedural tasks where work methods and techniques are well established.
