The Salem VA Medical Center, a vibrant progressive teaching hospital, affiliated with the University of Virginia. The Salem VA Medical Center is a modern, 288 bed facility located in the progressive community of Salem/Roanoke of southwest Virginia.
The Salem VA Medical Center(SVAMC) is actively recruiting three full-time ICU Hospitalists to work within the 8-bed step down unit(SDU), and 6 bed medical intensive care unit/coronary care unit. SVAMC is a vibrant, progressive teaching hospital, affiliated with the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, and the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. Attractions to the area include excellent schools, affordable housing, and stress-free commute. Hospitalists will work 12-h shifts, 7 days on and 7 days off. During the day shift, one hospitalist will primarily manage all SDU and CCU patients, with the help of a physicians' assistant. During the night shift, one hospitalist will cover SDU, CCU, and MICU. Back-up and supervision are available from a team of 9 critical care pulmonologists and cardiologists, with additional support from every major medical subspecialty, surgery, and interventional radiology. DUTIES:
Hospitalists are to provide inpatient care to the SDU, CCU, MICU(primarily overnight), and occasional medical patients in the Surgical ICU. SDU work rounds will be conducted by hospitalists. Hospitalists will be responsible for writing admission orders and completing History and Physicals for patients admitted during their tour of duty (with help available at times by a physician's assistant). There will be pulmonary/critical care and cardiology back-up, and consultative support available. Current experience, excellent clinical skills, up to date procedural skills, and BLS/ACLS certification are required. We are affiliated with the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, and the Edward Via College of osteopathic Medicine and teaching medical students, residents, and fellows is an integral part of the hospital. Faculty appointments available according to qualifications.

Required Skills:
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting in a course of education in medicine.
- Applicants will have completed an approved Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited residency and be board-certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine, Pulmonology, or another appropriate medical specialty.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
- Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
- Applicant must have current experience.
- You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position. (Non citizens may be considered if no qualified citizen applicants are available).
- After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
- You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
