Pipeline Simulation Analyst

Job Responsibilities:

 

This position reports to the Manager of Simulation and SCADA Control (S SC) as part of a small team within the Control Center and Technical Services department.

 

Duties Responsibilities:

 

·         Assist with the building and maintaining of Computational Pipeline Monitors (CPMs). These systems are used to provide leak detection, hydraulic visualization, and pressure monitoring through the use of real time transient models.

·         Identify and make recommendations for improvements to the CPM systems.

·         Support the Control Centre Operator’s when required. Support includes assisting in determining the cause of CPM (Leak) alarms and maintaining the health of the CPM systems. Once trained this requires sharing in a rotation of 24 hour on-call support.

·         Develop and maintain leak detection manuals for the Control Centre Operators (CCO’s)

·         Develop, maintain and deliver leak detection courses to the control centre operators.

·         Develop and support the Leak Detection – SCADA interface software and utilities used by the CCOs to start and stop the leak detection models.

·         Develop and support VBA software utilities used by the CCOs, including tank farm and pipeline line balances.

·         Monitoring and evaluating the data used by the CPM models. Working the instrumentation and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) groups to resolve problems.

·         Perform validation testing of CPM systems including fluid withdrawal and simulated leak tests.

·         Assist the S SC group in making sure that the leak detection systems are in compliance with all applicable regulations.

 

Other desirable skills

·         Knowledge of GL Noble Denton’s SPS and/or Televent’s SimSuite software.

·         Computer programming with C++ and C# within visual studio. Familiarity with FORTRAN.

·         Experience working with real-time software.

Experience developing and delivering technical training to non-technical personnel.

 

Requirements and Qualifications:

 

·         Degree in Science, Computer Science or Engineering.

·         Knowledge of pipeline hydraulics and operation.

·         Experience developing and maintaining computer simulations.
