Horizon Oil Sands
Horizon Oil Sands is an exciting part of our growth.  Full production capacity for Phase 1 is 110,000 bbl/d of fully upgraded, light, sweet synthetic crude oil.  We will see incremental production gains throughout the completion of future expansion and debottlenecking, with targeted full facility capacity of approximately 250,000 bbl/d.  Further phases of expansion will bring the ultimate capacity to 500,000 bbl/d.

This position is based in Fort McMurray, Alberta and is eligible for:
* Relocation to Calgary or Fort McMurray

Position Summary

THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Piping Engineer will provide the key daily support and accountability for developing innovative solutions to unique and challenging piping problems.  The primary focus will be on implementation strategies that are able to be accomplished within an operating plant environment by such methods as design of on line leak sealing and hot tap packages.

HOW WILL YOU MAKE YOUR MARK?
* Perform inspections and troubleshoot piping problems
* Generate Technical and Business Case recommendations and evaluations including cost estimates
* Perform piping design and specification including pipe stress analysis and supports
* Liaise with other engineering disciplines, designers, procurement specialists and vendors
* Develop Construction Work Packages that include Scope of Work Specifications containing equipment data sheets; general arrangement layouts; isometrics and Bill of Material covering piping, insulation, heat tracing, welding and all testing requirements
* Monitor and oversee the quality of engineering documentation including APEGGA stamping requirements
* Deliver completed engineering designs and specifications based on CNRL Standards and National and International codes and standards including ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), ANSI (American National Standards Institute), API (American Petroleum Institute) and more specifically ABSA (the pressure equipment safety authority) requirements
* Take ownership of all matters related to piping, support structures, stress analysis and testing requirements
* Provide clarification/responses to technical queries presented by operations and Maintenance personnel
* Know and comply with all company standards as well as regulations and legislative requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for the Province of Alberta and environmental standards in developing piping design
* Give advice, recommendations and leadership to resolve piping issue

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Typically 8+ years of industry experience with Mechanical Engineering Degree
* Registration with APEGGA as a Professional Engineer
* Familiarity with and understanding of:
   o working on processing, mining, refining, upgrading, or Oil Sands facilities projects
   o STAAD Pro computer design, Microstation and AutoCAD
   o experience supporting teams such as Engineering, Construction, Maintenance, Operations and EPC contractors
   o Piping Stress Analysis Software such as CAESAR II or other flexibility analysis software
