Position Overview:
The Plant Manager directs and coordinates activities of an established, highly automated industrial plant and is an integral part of the Business Unit Team that proactively provides leadership, guidance, process consistency and direction across the Business Unit and whole. In addition, hands on responsibility for all operational functions on a daily basis.
Functions:
- Assures commitment to policies and goals, and implements goals through subordinate personnel..
- Confers with personnel, and reviews activity, operating, and sales reports to determine changes required.
- Directs and coordinates production, processing, and distribution activities of plant(s).
- Reviews processing schedules and production orders to determine staffing requirements, work procedures, and duty assignments.
· Analyzes production, quality control, maintenance, and other operational reports to detect production problems.
· Reviews operations and confers with technical or administrative staff to resolve production or processing problems.
· Coordinates and recommends procedures for facility and equipment maintenance or modification.
· Develops plans for efficient use of materials, machines, and employees.
· Reviews the results of problem investigations.
· Develops rework procedures and instructions on non-conforming stock.
· Implements corrective action requests on defects.
· Takes action to check stock when notified of a complaint.
· Appoints a champion to form a team to determine cause and correction of complaint.
· Verifies that products are handled according to procedures.
· Analyzes plant operations for conformance to Standard Operating Procedures.
· Determines manpower requirements to meet sales forecast.
· Determines hours of work and over time required for sales.
· Assigns tasks to meet performance goals.
· Reviews daily production reports for productivity scrap and problems.
· Tours plant daily looking for improvements in cost, productivity, and safety.
· Reviews daily outside yard conditions for housekeeping and Department of Environmental Quality violations.
· Assigns tasks for implementing continuous improvements.
· Monitors improvements based on cost of quality or productivity.
· Assures commitment to tasks on safety issues.
· Approves hours of work and overtime for plant personnel.
· Reviews weekly production schedules for requirements.
· Coordinates timing for required repairs to tools and equipment.
· Coordinates timing for new tool tryout and encourage changes.
· Implements early containment on new products or required carryovers.
· Develops job change over scripts with set up personnel.
· Defines performance expectations and goals for subordinates and work units.
· Monitors performance of tasks performed by supervisors and provides feedback as appropriate.
· Develops skills of supervisors through training and coaching.
· Make improvements by planning and coordinating initiatives for systematically reducing risk in the work place.

Key Core Competencies:
- Thorough and solid understanding and hands on experience of manufacturing operations in tooling, stamping, and/or welded assembly environment. Strong knowledge of manufacturing concepts, analysis, techniques, principles and practices (FMEA, PM Systems, tooling, material flow, pull systems etc.)
- Strong aptitude and skill in organizational discipline, project management and analyzing and interpreting various types of data.
- Ability to organize, classify and structure multiple pieces of information and metrics accurately.
- Solid judgment and decision making aptitude in weighing relative cost and benefits of business actions. (Cause Effect)
- Ability to “Critically Think” utilizing logic and analysis to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different business approaches.
- Ability to successfully function under pressure in a matrix style of management.
- Excellent operation organizational skills couple with follow-up; problem solving, team building, and planning/
- Must be process driven and show aggressiveness when completing assignments and other responsibilities.
- Clear understanding of Budget related issues i.e. – gross margin, CB etc.
- Experience working in an organization that has a well defined “Safety Culture”
Education and Additional Requirements:
- Bachelor degree in business or engineering discipline required. MBA or advanced degree preferred. .
- Minimum of 10-15 + yrs. of manufacturing related experience with hands on operational knowledge.
- Competency in Lean Manufacturing concepts and tools
- Commercial customer experience is a plus
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Project software.
- Must be willing to travel occasionally.
- Must be able to commit time necessary to get the job done.
