Description of position
This position performs the tasks necessary to develop and implement new Point-of-Sale software strategies into Costco’s fuel and warehouse environments. This includes technical knowledge of POS programming and POS hardware in order to develop new systems, maintain the current system, analyze, and apply solutions to new and existing systems. This includes communicating with business and IT personnel to gather requirements, and to analyze, design and implement business solutions.

This position will identify and evaluate promising technologies and determine their applicability to Costco’s business needs. In some cases, this position is responsible for coordinating proof-of-concepts of new technologies to demonstrate viability and business value. This position will focus on Costco’s Point of Sale solutions for both the warehouses and the gas stations.

 

Tasks and responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

·                 Creating or modifying programs consistent with department procedures, philosophies, and standards

·                 Installing, configuring, and supporting POS applications for Retalix Fuel Systems on Windows Servers

·                 Installing, configuring, and supporting POS applications for IBM 4690 solutions

·                 Support the creation of business case framework documents

·                 Working with business users to help define and document requirements

·                 Designing specific applications as assigned, including traceability back to requirements

·                 Troubleshooting and correcting programming errors as assigned

·                 Creating test scripts and executing adequate unit and system testing while providing necessary test documentation

·                 Providing mentoring and support to both project and area team members

·                 Working with users to develop strong understanding of the business areas

·                 Staying current on industry technology directions by establishing mechanisms for scanning the technology horizon

·                 Creating strong relationships with vendor’s product development groups

·                 Creating strategies for retiring old systems while deploying new ones

 Required skills, abilities, and certifications

·                 5+ years of experience with multiple Point-of-Sale software and hardware vendors

·                 3+ years knowledge and experience in working with Point-of-Sale related hardware including fuel platforms, register platforms, and self-checkout systems

·                 Strong understanding of evolving industry standards and new technologies

·                 Ability to effectively perform unit and system testing of applications, including the creation and execution of test scripts

·                 Previous experience in design and writing code specifications

·                 Strong proven interpersonal skills able to work well with people at all levels

·                 Team player; able to work closely and amicably with peers

·                 Strong analytical and problem solving skills

·                 Must be responsible, conscientious and possess a passion for excellence

·                 Must be available to work occasional nights and weekends, and perform on-call support as required

Recommended skills, abilities, and certifications

·                 2+ years’ experience in writing and modifying IBM Supermarket Application utilizing 4690 CBasic

·                 2+ years’ experience in utilizing the 4690 Operating System and development system tools

·                 Capabilities in some of the following: Java, Object Oriented Design, Web-based development, HTML, Java Script, Websphere, MQSeries a plus

·                 Familiarity with configuring and supporting Windows servers and utilities

·                 Familiarity with IBM SurePOS ACE application environment a plus

·                 Familiarity with IBM Store Integration Framework a plus

·                 Willing to take ownership of all assigned task

·                 Innovative, creative, and extremely responsive with a strong sense of urgency

·                 Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

·                 Willing to share knowledge and assist others in understanding technical and business topics
