Port Engineer MARAD (San Diego, CA):

This Port Engineer position is located on the US Naval Base and will support the Ready Reserve Force vessel SS Curtiss, a RO/RO container ship.  Requires USCG Engineer’s License and experience developing and managing shipyard drydock contracts and negotiating work items.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position is located on the US Naval Base and will support the Ready Reserve Force vessel SS Curtiss, a RO/RO container ship.

 

Management position responsible for the repair, maintenance, modifications and operations of vessels, equipment and facilities assigned to a specific port, region or operating company. This includes the direction, interpretation and administration of performance based government contracts and company policies and procedures. Coordinates with multiple departments to ensure all operations are carried out safely and in conformance with all applicable laws and regulations. Develop and adhere to maintenance and repair budgets, as well as control of expenditures within limitations of designated project budgets.  Port Engineer is responsible for implementation and monitoring of Government Quality Assurance Plans, contract deliverables and configuration management.

 

Supervise the timely and cost-effective maintenance, repair, modification, and refurbishment projects of assigned vessels or facilities. Responsible for developing repair specifications and vendor bid packages and evaluates bid packages. Supervise and monitor the contractors and /or shipyards during projects. Conducts on-site surveys to determine maintenance and repair needs. 

 

Position requires the ability to effectively manage shipyard and other large projects that may vary in nature and scope. Responsible for vessel’s compliance with all ABS/USCG and other Regulatory Body requirements.  Monitor vessel maintenance and repair status in the vessel computerized maintenance and purchasing program (NS5), identify deficiencies and report as required.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE EDUCATION:
Minimum 5 years experience in marine engineering. Must possess management skill sets and demonstrate proven experience developing, improving and streamlining processes to meet established goals and objectives.  Must have experience developing and managing shipyard drydock contracts and negotiating work items.

 

Must have experience working with ABS and other regulatory bodies and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of requirements.  Must demonstrate ability to identify repair requirements and develop a biddable contract work specifications. 

 

Applicant will have to meet security requirements for a government secret clearance as arranged by Crowley.

 

Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering or at least 10 years in a marine related engineering field. USCG Licensed Engineer.

 

All Crowley positions require proficiency in Microsoft Excel Word.  Some positions may also include proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications. Experience with the NS5 Maintenance Purchasing Program is desirable.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Position works outside in conditions of both hot and cold temperatures as well as inside in an office environment. Must be able to crouch and stoop to get into areas with restricted headroom, to climb ladders and to lift and carry 50-75 lbs. Exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially hazardous equipment. May involve travel to multiple locations and extended stays out of home location. Long hours, short notice travel, weekend duties and 24-hour on-call status essential job requirements. Must comply with all work rules, including those that pertain to safety and health.
