Portfolio Services

The Portfolio Services department in London provides Schroders global client base a range of portfolio services from post deal execution through to client reporting and performance measurement. Services are provided directly to the clients and to the investment and distribution divisions within the firm. The department is currently supported by 150 staff organised into 4 divisions; Portfolio Operations, Portfolio Accounting Reporting, Data Derivatives and Performance Measurement. 

Schroders is committed to continually enhancing our portfolio service capabilities and improving operational efficiency. A £30m investment plan has recently completed on time and budget to replace and enhance the systems and processes which support the core portfolio service functions. Schroders has adopted a “best of breed” strategy selecting the best applications and integrating them to deliver our target operating model.  

Portfolio Accounting Overview

Schroders Portfolio Accounting department is responsible for the control and monitoring of accounting data integrity. Portfolio Accounting undertakes the validation of investment records provided to Portfolio Managers on a daily / intra–day basis through the resolution of issues arising from reconciliations. Aligned to the Investment and Distribution divisions of Schroders, Portfolio Accounting are responsible for the production and delivery of periodic and ad-hoc operational client reports such as client valuations.  The department has critical dependencies on all other Portfolio Services functions for timely, accurate and complete information. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Accountable for allocated portfolios, proactive investigation and follow up of queries arising from fund managers, fund managers’ assistants, clients, custodians and administrators.

• Ownership of exception resolution through daily review procedures, including overdrafts, cash flows, NAV reconciliations and custodian stock/cash reconciliations.

• Validate and update Schroder client accounting records and reconciliation system with transactions relating to netflows, asset allocations, fees, rebates and FX.

• Produce and verify periodic and ad hoc reports of client investment positions and transactions in accordance with agreed format, data content and scheduling requirements.

• Working directly with counterparts across Client Support and Performance, input to, agree and manage schedules for production of client reporting.

• Ensure timely resolution of production issues in accordance with deadlines.

• Provide information from internal accounting or external counterparty records as requested and ensure timely resolution of queries arising from Portfolio Accounting activities.

• Work through high volumes, prioritise and manage work loads according to risk or deadlines.

• Oversee account transitions to ensure accurate accounting records are maintained for new/lost clients and any new/changing reporting requirements are addressed.

The job holder has responsibility to pay due regard to the interests of our customers and treat them fairly, ensuring that the information provided to clients on products and services is clear and useful and enables them to understand fully what they are being offered. They are required to familiarise themselves fully with current procedures, FSA compliance requirements, and the principles behind ‘Treating Customers Fairly’.
