Portfolio Director, CDC Africa Funds Team recruitment

CDC is looking for a Portfolio Director for their Africa fund-of-funds team, a role which  encompasses:

- Managing a portfolio of Africa funds, including monitoring  both their financial performance and development impact

-  Mentoring juniors in fund selection and fund relationship management

-  Contributing to the design of CDC’s annual investment programme in African funds

-  Sourcing, analysing and completing new investment proposals

-  Negotiating all aspects of fund commitment agreements

-  Taking a pro-active approach to resolving problems at fund manager level

-  Monitoring development impact of each investee fund

-  Maintaining up-to-date market knowledge

-  Contributing to the overall management of CDC’s business

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following suitability for the role:

-  Significant experience in private equity fund-of-funds investing, possibly supplemented by an equity valuation or direct equity investing background.

-  A track record of working in emerging market finance, most likely in sub-Saharan Africa, as part of at least eight years total business experience in an international environment.

-  Fund selection skills, including:

-          Familiarity with PPMs, diligence processes, financial terms, legal terms

-          Strong influencing and  negotiation abilities

-          Understanding and monitoring of ongoing relationships.

-  Investment monitoring skills, including: 

-         Analysis and bench-marking of fund / investment performance reports / data

-         Sustaining long term relationships with investee management teams

-         Deploying good management/mentoring skills.

-  A detailed working knowledge of and active interest in investing in developing countries.

-  Excellent academic credentials.

-  Demonstrable alignment with CDC’s mandate, mission and values.
