Portfolio Manager – Global Banking – London recruitment

The London branch of Wells Fargo, based in Fenchurch Street, has approximately 300 Team Members.

The Subsidiary Banking within Global Banking focuses on Wells Fargo’s US parented relationships with Sales and/or a Subsidiary presence within the UK/Europe. 

Our mandate is to partner with our Global Banking Consultants in the US to deliver international financial services to the customers at Commercial Banking, Corporate Banking, and other parts of the Wholesale bank.

The existing portfolio is currently largely comprised of Wholesale middle market customers. Our services are both credit and non-credit related; we therefore support our clients’ needs around Lending, Treasury Management, Trade Finance, and Credit Risk Management. 

Our global relationships are supported and managed through offices across the US, London, Dublin, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Singapore.

The successful candidate will manage a growing portfolio of relationships and most importantly develop offshore credit solutions for our US customers. The candidate is also expected to have a proven track record in cross-sell of non credit products, and strong partnering and team work skills.

Responsibilities
The primary areas of responsibility for the role are as follows:

1. LOAN STRUCTURING/DOCUMENTATION/LOAN BOOOKINGS

• Portfolio Managers will manage lending enquiries and structuring of complex facilities among Loan Admin/customer/RMs/LTMs. 

• Portfolio Manager will also, document/negotiate/coordinate/review closing of facilities/ensure seamless execution of Bilateral Loans, Revolvers, Term Loans, and Overdraft Facilities.

• Portfolio Managers will continuously increase knowledge of loan structuring and keep up-to-date on legal/market changes, credit documentation, and London Branch multi-currency Loan Policy.

• PMS will support other businesses/develop processes to onboard new multi-currency lending client relationships where required.

• PMS will communicate our London-based capabilities to our US Relationship Groups.

2. SECURITY/COLLATERALISATION

• Provide guidance and accurate and timely information on lending capabilities; responsible for structuring, reviewing, negotiating, documenting and executing of security/collateral products in co-operation with Relationship Managers, and in-house Legal or external counsel.

3. CREDIT/RISK

• Maintain a thorough knowledge of Wells Fargo’s credit policies and credit culture while staying abreast of all policy and compliance changes.

• Contact for key issues/questions.

4. PARTNERSHIP WITH OTHER TEAMS

• Establish strong day-to-day working relationships with partner groups including Treasury Management, Global Rates, Operations, Finance, Trade, US based Global Banking Partners, and Loans Administration, Tax, Legal, and Compliance. 

• Strong team skills required.

5. INCREASE DEAL EXECUTION

• Coordinate client-focused solutions when preparing pitch-books, and Credit Term Sheets.  

• Work closely with Treasury Management partners to support quick turnaround on closing new client relationships. 

• Manage and support ad-hoc enquiries/referrals/projects.

6. DRIVING UK/EUROPEAN SUBSIDIARY SALES

• Responsibility to grow/cross-sell/ and protect business opportunities of US parented relationships and extend their needs into the UK/Europe; manage the sales process for our clients’ credit and non-credit requirements around Lending, Treasury Management, Trade Services, and Risk Management. 

• Coordination of the process credit process to ensure tight deadlines for delivering results are met at all times (e.g., calls, RFPs, Loan Documentation/Structuring/Negotiation, Account Openings including Pricing, Trade Guarantees, FX/Investment). This will involve interacting closely with the referring office in the US or Offshore, and with clients to deliver results in a timely manner. 

• Maintain accurate sales pipeline and ensure key relationship systems are kept current (e.g., IBIS/Midas+ set-up, Salesforce).

• Monitor and drive portfolio growth by reviewing key financial indicators and trends on a monthly basis.

Requirements
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

• Ideally degree educated or equivalent

• Strong Portfolio Management skills (including Loans and Trade Services).

• Track record of building and maintaining new sales to build long-standing client relationships.

• Comfortable interacting with Senior Management, i.e. CEO/FCO/Global Treasurer at client companies

• Strong analytical, negotiation and problem solving skills.

• Excellent organisational, time-management, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

• Meticulous, keen to learn, and commercially astute are key attributes.   

• Self-motivated, able to multi-task, and prioritize under pressure in a rapidly changing and growing environment.

• Able to work independently; take pride and ownership in assigned tasks.

• Must be a team player and enjoy supporting and achieving team goals.

• Creative thinker.

• Availability to Travel (mainly UK/Europe; occasional US travel).
