We are presently recruiting for a Portfolio Manager, Global Corporate Securities on the Portfolio Management team in the Public Market Investments department. The Portfolio Management team within Global Corporate Securities (GCS) group is accountable for the development and implementation of a systematic portfolio construction and review process to validate inputs and recommend trade lists pertaining to global securities on a day-to-day basis within the context of the GCS and PMI Investment Board’s strategic and business plans and investment policies. The goal of the active portfolio management strategies in GCS is to exceed value-added targets and contribute to GCS’s overall strategy and business objectives. 

The Portfolio Management team incorporates both fundamental and quantitative research using state-of-the-art portfolio construction methods to produce a best of breed, integrated, well diversified portfolio. A central part of this position involves rebalancing the portfolio and analyzing trades as well as the overall portfolio. Within GCS, the Portfolio Management team contributes to the generation of alpha to the GCS portfolio through implementation research including but not limited to: scenario analysis and what-if optimizations; transactions costs analysis; strategy back testing; analysis of paper portfolios; developing portfolio diagnostics; and on-going monitoring of the markets for exogenous information that could impact the portfolio performance.

Role Specific Accountabilities:

• Participate in and further the development of the systematic portfolio construction process incorporating the views of both the quantitative and fundamental research teams: generate, review and recommend trade lists.

• Monitor portfolio from multiple perspectives: statistical, factor and name-specific.   Develop portfolio intuition outside of GCS perspective.

• Communicate with GCS fundamental research team members and external research sources to understand large portfolio exposures.

• Develop portfolio and model expertise within a specific geographic region.

• Utilize and further the development of diagnostics to monitor the portfolio and provide feedback to the quantitative research team and fundamental research team.

• Stay current with respect to the market environment and potential non-modeled risks and implement corrective actions if necessary.

• Partner with and leverage the skills, insights and resources of GCS in developing, managing and transferring knowledge of quantitative and fundamental research insights into other parts of Public Market Investments and the organization. 

• Proactively inform other departments of issues or key initiatives that affect their accountabilities.

• Develop and maintain strong cross-functional relationships for idea generation and execution capabilities.

• Perform ad hoc applied research and stay abreast of research in asset pricing theory, risk management and portfolio construction techniques.

• Work outside of standard business hours or on Canadian holidays, as required.

If you possess the following, we’d like to hear from you:

• 5+ years experience quantitative equity portfolio management.

• Applied experience with quantitative tools and methods such as portfolio optimization, factor risk models, and performance attribution.

• Detailed knowledge of asset pricing and modern portfolio theory; portfolio management and/or research experience desirable, with a deep understanding of finance and current knowledge of trends, issues, techniques and technology.

• Experience with large or multi-asset class portfolios.

• Minimum undergraduate degree in science, math, engineering, or economics; CFA designation is desirable.

• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with a high degree of professionalism combined with the ability to adapt to rapidly changing investment business and technology environments; open to new ideas, approaches and challenges.

• Solid, demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills; experience building and retaining working relationships internally and externally.

• Highest degree of integrity and experience working in an environment of partnership and high performance.
