MANDATE
The Portfolio Management Group (PMG) is responsible for supporting the BMO Harris Private Banking Investment Counsellors (IC’s) with the effective implementation, construction and monitoring of client investment accounts which are to be in line with BMO Harris Investment Management (BHIMI) research team's philosophy, strategies and mandates. The Manager, PMG effectively implements, constructs, and monitors client investment accounts for their assigned Investment Counsellors. The position is also responsible for being the primary registered person to manage Platinuminvest investment accounts, ensuring IC’s receive comprehensive training on the Charles River portfolio management systems as well as to provide secondary backup to IC’s

ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Investment Relationship Management
• Responsible for effective relationship and investment management for assigned Investment Counsellor portfolios and other centrally-managed portfolios.
• May include direct interaction with clients in establishing appropriate IPS for core centrally managed mandates.
• Has a very strong level of investment management/financial instrument understanding and proficiency.   
• Proactively demonstrates effective implementation, construction and monitoring of client accounts.  
• Prepare standard or custom spreadsheets and reports to assist ICs. This includes portfolio summaries, asset allocation targets, bond analysis reports, maturity schedules, sector analysis and income projections.
• Prepare and/or assist Senior Manager, RDI and/or National Director of Investments, with regular communications to the ICs.
• Proactively liaises with the trading desk to enhance synergies and ensure prompt and accurate order execution
• Implementation of block trades for clients as policy changes occur relative to client constraints.  
• Prepare duration and asset allocation analysis against model portfolios.
• Maintain low portfolio variability and keep performance in line with internal composites benchmarks.  
• Proactively review client accounts to ensure compliance with mandate.
• Proactively liaises with the Research team to ensure highest level of investment knowledge related to BHIMI’s mandates and the investment industry.

• Has a very strong level of understanding of the compliance policies and procedures relating to private client money management and ensures that existing risk management procedures and controls are being followed.  
• May be required to help training new PMG employees.
• Provides insight and shares expertise with team members in regards to financial markets, economic developments and investment management.  
• Must be willing to take initiative, is entrepreneurial and achievement orientated.
• Displays high energy and self-confidence.

3. Project Management
• Assist with ad-hoc projects in support of the RDI, SVP National Director - Investment Management, and/or Sr. Manager, PMG.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
a) Knowledge:
• University Degree.
• CFA.
• Minimum of 5 years working experience in the investment and/or financial services industry either in a similar role or within the Investment Research, Investment Banking or Portfolio Management divisions.  
• Credentials and experience sufficient to achieve registration as Advising Representative with Provincial Securities Commissions.
 

b) Skills:
• Strong investment management knowledge and skills including expert knowledge of financial instruments and how they behave based upon changing market conditions.
• Strong client service, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong relationship management, time management and organization skills.
• A solid understanding of the financial markets and genuine interest in economics and capital markets, with the ability to communicate the impact of financial conditions succinctly.                       
• Strong financial analysis knowledge and familiarity with taxation issues.
• Ability to work within a compliance framework.
• Strong attention to detail, organized, able to work independently, ability to multitask and take initiative.
• Strong computer skills and exposure to Global Plus, Microsoft Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Starquote, Bloomberg, FMC and Charles River would be an asset.
