Portfolio Operations – Regulatory Responsibilities Overview
Portfolio Operations is responsible for the confirmation and settlement of all Forward Foreign Exchanges and TBA (To Be Announced) transactions and these products have regulatory obligations under Dodd Frank and EMIR (European Market Infrastructure Regulation). Portfolio Operations also provide daily transaction reporting to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and perform daily regulatory tasks required to meet our Client Assets (CASS) requirements as defined in the FCA Handbook.
Overview of Role
The support and development team will co-ordinate, drive and deliver change projects within Portfolio Operations. This will include market driven change, mandatory upgrades and functionality enhancement projects. A project is typically a change greater than 20 IT days effort.
The Specialist will support and deliver individual projects and change relating to regulatory initiatives impacting the work and services provided by Portfolio Operations and to ensure all regulatory requirements are met on daily basis.
The Specialist will help to ensure a quality service to the business and to our colleagues within Portfolio Services.
The successful candidate will possess expertise within this regulatory function, and be able to demonstrate the key skills required to perform this role to the high standards required, and to deliver their objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expertise and innovation to propose, gain sponsorship and deliver new change ideas, options and initiatives, and solutions to regulatory issues and project challenges arising.
- Assist in the assessment and specification of selected projects including supporting the prioritisation/business case process, and/or prepare/contribute to project documentation as required.
- Ensure procedures are updated / introduced to cover all new and changing regulatory requirements.
- Deliver projects within time and budget, and support the meeting and bettering of Portfolio Ops cost centres budgets.
- Ensure regulatory changes within Portfolio Operations are consistent and follow Schroders guidelines, including any alignment to other jurisdictions.
- Demonstrate flexibility to support all regulatory changes and day to day requirements and to cross train and self develop where required.
- Work with Portfolio Ops Team and other appropriate departments such as Legal and Compliance to prioritise, drive, test and implement regulatory required changes
- Support independent review of all department EOs and Audit comments and recommendations and support change/ improvement.
- Proactively support wider Portfolio Services initiatives and challenges.
- Ensure no regulatory breaches arising from work and services provided by Portfolio Operations

Desirable Experience and Skills:
- Previous experience in Dodd Frank and EMIR regulatory work is advantageous
- Good knowledge and understanding of Dodd Frank regulations; EMIR regulations; Financial Conduct Authority CASS regulations and MIFID regulations
- Competence on Portfolio Ops functions; Portfolio Services and Schroders business.
- Strong regulatory controls focus.
- Competent individual with a track record of implementing regulatory required changes to existing work processes.
- Ability to initiate and lead change, and be motivated by the opportunity to deliver substantive business benefits through such changes.
- Ability to read documentation produced by the regulators of each jurisdiction and to interpret the requirements and produce high quality requirements documentation for senior management within Portfolio Operations and Portfolio Services
- Ability to naturally perform root cause analysis, and develop plans of action
- Capability to maintain and manage strong working relationships with internal partners and external counterparties.

- An interest in expanding knowledge of all regulations impacting the work of Portfolio Operations
- Knowledge of Markit Counterparty Manager is beneficial
