Opportunity The Portfolio Construction Risk team's focus is on performing portfolio analysis across the Equity franchise, identifying and managing risks in our equity portfolio and advising fund managers on efficient portfolio construction.
Key responsibilities
- Production of portfolio analysis and risk reports on funds across the Equity franchise and responsibility for the quality of the output.
- Understanding of the systems, models and output used by the team for portfolio analysis and how they add value to the fund managers.
- Improvement automation of the procedures used for the production of the fund analysis reports for more efficient fund monitoring.
- Support of senior strategist in fund analysis by understanding the funds' biases and requirements and providing new ideas to help portfolio construction.
- Production of ad hoc analysis to field queries from senior strategists and fund managers.
- Keeping up to date with portfolio research and key market events in relation to fund analysis and helping portfolio construction.
Day-to-day
- Efficient use of the systems and procedures used in the regular fund output and improvement of their efficiency (automation rationalisation of processes).
- Production of market fund reports on a monthly quarterly basis and ensuring the quality consistency of the output.
- Ability to explain the assumptions of all risk models used by the team using the principles of portfolio theory and how the output adds value to the fund managers.
- Support of the senior strategist in:
- Close monitoring of the funds in terms of changes in risk, drivers of performance, behavioural biases. Bespoke requests as directed by the senior strategists or the fund managers (pre-trade analysis, baskets analysis, time series analysis, stock screens or any new projects which help portfolio construction).
- Providing and implementing new ideas to improve the monitoring of fund performance and risk and help portfolio construction.
- Attend meetings with updates on portfolio research and the markets from sell side houses.
- Attend training courses for systems used by the team in order to keep up to date with the latest software updates.
What we are looking for
- A good degree or post graduate qualification of a technical nature (maths, physics, finance, engineering).
- CFA or other equivalent professional qualification is desirable but not a requirement.
- Knowledge of modern portfolio theory is preferred but not essential.
- Relevant experience in a quantitative role within investment environment is not essential but problem solving skills are.
- Highly motivated, hard working and eager to learn.
- Attention to detail and diligence.
- Flexibility to deal with a range of requests and ability to multi-task in a tight deadline environment.
- Demonstration of ability to work well within a team.
- Strong Excel and VBA skills are essential.
- Other programming or database experience is preferred but not essential.
