The Power Facilities Operations Manager will be based in Scottsdale, AZ and will be responsible for directing all operation, maintenance, repair and capital project activities for the portion of Northbrook’s hydropower portfolio under his/her responsibility. The Power Facilities Operations Manager will assure the safe, efficient operation of the plants in compliance with applicable environmental, safety, and power generating requirements.
Supervisory Responsibility: Manage 15-20 plant personnel at several plants, including supervisors and operators, as well as outside contractors and consultants.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
· Maximize the safety, efficiency, and reliability of the hydroelectric plants.
· Perform project management responsibilities on unit outages, major overhauls and preventative maintenance.
· Prepare, and/or oversee the preparation of, required reports, annual operating and capital budgets, environmental compliance reports, etc.
· Facilitate training to ensure that plant procedures are understood and properly followed by all plant personnel.
· Conduct periodic reviews of plant policies and procedures to ensure that they reflect current plant operating requirements.
· Ensure that all plant personnel and plant objectives are in alignment with company requirements.
· Direct the sourcing, screening and hiring of new or replacement personnel as needed.
· Ensure that the morale and motivation of plant personnel is maintained at a high level at all times.
· Coordinate reporting and investigation of accidents, injuries and environmental matters.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
The Power Facilities Operations Manager will travel as needed to review plant operations, participate in special projects, interview potential employees, and any other needs. It is anticipated that travel will be required on the order of 35% of the time.
The Power Facilities Operations Manager determines his/her own practices and procedures, contributing to the development of new concepts, and performing duties independently with only general directions given. Decisions are made within policy constraints. The Power Facilities Operations Manager encounters new and varied work situations, often very complex in nature.
The Power Facilities Operations Manager is accountable for the plant's long-range planning. The Power Facilities Operations Manager must effectively communicate information to corporate management, plant staff, client representatives, suppliers and contractors relative to the overall operations of the plant. The Power Facilities Operations Manager must perform duties, and ensure all plant personnel are productive and performing duties, in a safe manner, in compliance with environmental permits and in such a way as to optimize plant cost-benefit ratios.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The Power Facilities Operations Manager reports to Upper Management.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
When at the power plants, physical requirements may include: (a) as needed, hands-on repairs with plant personnel (b) working on ones feet for extended periods, including stair and ladder climbing; (c) working in confined spaces; (d) working in the elements; and (d) lifting heavy objects.
Position will generally require 40-50 hours per week, with the possibility of weekend and holiday work as required by work load and plant conditions. The Power Facilities Operations Manager will be on plant alarm call ladders behind plant personnel.
All potential employees will be subject to a background check and drug screening prior to employment.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or equivalent preferred. 10+ years of power plant or similar experience required. At least 5 years of experience supervising technical, supervisory and administrative personnel. Demonstrated understanding of hydropower plants or similar industry facilities, EHS compliance, management, operations and maintenance. Must possess strong leadership and decision-making skills to thrive in a highly decentralized environment, and be able to interact with appropriate demeanor with employees, clients, management, public officials and regulators. Must be able to motivate people, manage differences and resolve conflict to obtain company objectives. Must have familiarity with Microsoft Office tools.
