Power Gas Analytics Java Developer

My client is a world leader in global supply chain management and they have an exciting opportunity for a Java Developer to join their power and gas team

Job Purpose:
Enhance and support existing systems for data capture and storage of fundamental analytics for the Power and Gas commodities trading business

Provide tools for analysis of the captured data.

This is a position working within the Front Office environment alongside traders and analysts to enhance the pre-trade decision making functions of the business.

An excellent opportunity for a keen and enthusiastic developer interested in learning more about the commodities business and the fundamentals that drive the markets.

Responsibilities:
Develop against existing analytics system which:
*Scrapes data from websites and other external sources
*Stores data into a mixed database environment
*Presents data via an Excel addin and real time Java client
Maintain existing data feeds and add new sources
Manage the data in the databases
Work with analysts and traders to develop tools in Java and Excel for analysing the data

Core Java

JMS

Source control e.g. Subversion

Desirable IT Skills:
Excel VBA
C#
Non relational ('NoSQL') databases
Web development in HTML

Education, experience, skills:
Education and
Qualifications
A degree in an IT subject is desirable but not required.
Experience
Maintaining large Java development projects
Running their own short timescale projects (gather requirements direct from the business, design, develop and test their solutions)
Experience in a trading environment working closely with the trading desks and analysts is desirable
Understanding of analytics relating to the energy trading business, in particular power, gas and oil is highly desirable
