Responsible for the design, supply and in-service support of the Platform Management Systems for Naval Fleets and Commercial Shipping.

1. JOB DESCRIPTION
• Overall. Design and engineering of multi-megawatt, marine electrical power and drive systems during both the tender and contract process, from initial concept and specification through to commissioning.
• Tender Process. Development of system design; engineering estimates; technical presentations and tender documents for customers; liaison and negotiation with both customers and suppliers.
• Project Management. Project management during a contract; liaison with customers and suppliers; adherence to quality procedures, cost control and progress reporting.
• Contract Engineering. Design engineering or overall technical responsibility during a contract, including system design documentation, equipment specification and FAT approval, electrical and mechanical interfaces, interconnection and cabling specifications, and system manuals. Relevant equipment to include:
• Diesel-generator sets (medium voltage (MV) or low voltage (LV))
• MV or LV switchboards
• Converter and ships' service transformers
• Variable speed drive converters
• AC motors
2. CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION
2.1 ESSENTIAL
• Degree level qualification (or equivalent experience) in electrical and electronic engineering or related subject.
• Experience in an electrical engineering role in a project environment.
• Knowledge of power generation and variable speed drive systems.
• Good communication skills with the ability to present to customers both at the tender and contract stage of a project.
• Willingness to travel both home and abroad for both short and occasionally extended periods to visit customers, suppliers, shipyards or vessels.

2.2 DESIRABLE
• Chartered Engineer.
• Experience on multiple power system or drive system projects in a lead electrical engineering role, working under ISO 9001 quality procedures or equivalent.
• Experience in electrical design of power and drive systems for the marine, offshore or naval industries.
• Knowledge of LV and MV generation systems, switchboards and protection systems.
• Knowledge of LV and MV power electronic converters and their application.
• Knowledge of control systems.
• Knowledge of power and control system cabling specification and segregation.
• Drive controller and/or PLC programming experience.
• Production of electrical and mechanical drawings in Autocad format.
• Knowledge and use of power system analysis tools for short circuit calculations, harmonic calculations and load flow calculations.
• Project management experience or knowledge of project management techniques.
