SUMMARY:
Territory: Iowa

This position reports to a Premium Audit Manager or Regional Director and is responsible for performing audits on Property/Casualty Commercial Lines adjustable insurance policies to establish appropriate classifications, exposures and basis of premium. This is accomplished by visiting policyholders or their representatives to obtain/review the data necessary to develop earned premiums in accordance with company, industry and government rules and regulations.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Conducts audits on selected Commercial Lines adjustable policies, including Workers Compensation, General Liability and Automobile policies.

Completes audits by reviewing policyholder financial records including; federal and state quarterly tax returns, payroll records, financial statements and general ledger. An accurate audit will include proper identification of exposures; payroll, sales and vehicle types and accurate classification of these items to determine premium

Works independently to manage individual workload and performance within a predefined territory.

Discusses issues and problems with the insured to ensure their understanding of the change in premium and to develop and maintain good customer relations.

Ensures quality of the audit through proper risk classification and exposure basis identification. Utilizes laptop computer to record audit information in an excel based program and transmits completed audits in a timely manner.

Provides external customers (i.e., agents and insureds) and internal customers (i.e., underwriting, policy processing, claims and accounting) with information to assist in their understanding of audit-related matters, including audit vouchers, procedures and worksheets.

Remains informed of changes and current information relative to premium auditing through discussion and correspondence with experts and industry-related literature.

Alerts the Special Investigative Unit (SIU) of potential fraud situations as they surface.

EDUCATION/COURSE OF STUDY:

College degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
All incumbents are required to pass the industry APA exams within 2 years of hire, and promotion to the next level requires that the APA designation has been achieved.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Two to five years experience in premium audit or a related field is required.
Knowledge of Property and Casualty experience is a plus.
Must have a demonstrated ability to work independently possess strong organizational and communication skills.
Will be required to demonstrate an intermediate level knowledge of Excel.
In this position, the incumbent works outside of a regular office environment and therefore must possess discipline in their work habits and flexibility in their work hours within the confines of the needs of our customers. Daily travel to territory is required.
Valid driver's license and good driving history are necessary.

Overnight travel -5-7 nights a month
