Principal Data Analyst
The Principal Data Analyst is a senior data architecture role within the Fidelity Personal Investing Architecture group. This person will be responsible for Database Design Architecture on multiple concurrent development projects across multiple business areas. The position involves working closely with other technology and business partners on a variety of applications in all areas of the software development life cycle.
This person will have the following responsibilities:
- Work on multiple projects simultaneously: For each project engagement, the Principal Data Analyst will work with project groups to estimate the Data Analysis component(s) of the project via sizing sessions, and gather and document all data and meta-data requirements.
- Work with the business partner to understand business capabilities and requirements to translate into data requirements and data models
- Create the Conceptual, logical and physical data models (using Power Designer), and work with the DBA team to complete and generate the physical Database in test environments.
- Make application and database recommendations based on required access patterns and SLA requirements in conjunction with the physical DBA and project teams.
- Work with systems and business analysts in the Development team as well as the business, act as the subject matter expert within Data Analysis and Design in order to coordinate and propose the best possible database design that follows Fidelity standards and meets the business and application needs. Ensure maximum re-use of existing data stores when possible.
- The candidate will be responsible for constant communication with customer development and business groups, communicate and coordinate with systems, performance, architecture groups as well as the project manager for billing items.
- Manage the handoff of the physical implementation database design to the physical DBA team including coordinating the logical and physical data model reviews as well as educating and managing the development team's expectation.
- Technical Skills Include:
o Strong business system analysis skills
o Strong communication documentation skills
o Strong Problem solving skills and attention to detail
o Ability to work independently and lead data analysis initiatives
o 10 -12 years of logical data modeling and relational database design using PowerDesigner or other tools like ER/WIN
o OLTP / Data Warehousing design expertise with a database size of over 250 GB
o Good knowledge of Distributed database technology ( Oracle / Sybase) and / or DB2
o Prior development experience (distributed and/or mainframe) a plus
o Financial Systems expertise a plus
o A strong understanding of system interrelationships within Brokerage applications is a plus.
o This position requires strong client focus, follow up, communication, and multi-tasking skills.
o Team leadership qualities and mentoring skills
