Principal Developer/Lead - Warehouse Management Systems: # Primary Responsibilities: - Develop a collaborative relationship with the business partners to identify and define solutions that are efficient, reliable, maintainable, and scalable - Provide technical leadership with development and support initiatives - Design and develop new functionality required, participate in test, deployment, and support and maintenance activities - Develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of Staples retail business/system processes. Be able to balance complex business and technical issues to develop effective solutions that meet business and IT goals - Develop application documentation that follows Staples IS best practices and guidelines. This will include technical documentation as well as testing and implementation planning documents - Monitor compliance with IS standards, policies and procedures - Provide operations and production support for our onshore/offshore IT Support Team - Mentor junior members of the development team - Embrace and apply new technologies as needed - Work with change management, WMS/WHS team, other IS teams and business partners to provide updates on projects including releases. Qualifications Qualifications: Basic: - Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience - 5-8 years experience as a technical developer building and deploying critical business applications in a production environment - Experience in five or more of the following skill areas: (1) networking concepts: Performance Analysis, Database Management (2) operating systems: Windows 2000/2003, Unix, EXE/Informix, AS400 (3) database technologies: SQL, DB2, Oracle, 4GL, RPG Preferred: - Solid understanding of Distribution Operations and WMS Systems - Experience implementing packaged software applications - Strong leadership, listening and communication skills - Ability to work both independently (self-starter and proactive) and as a member of a team - Ability to multitask and prioritize issues under pressure - Strong ability to influence without having direct authority - Excellent project management and organizational skills (Understanding of SDLC processes) - Strong communication skills (with internal team members and external business partners) - Ability to design, understands or writes code, and test components within 4GL framework.
