Core Messaging Systems Engineering: Principal Engineer - Systems Design Strategy

Responsible for Systems Engineering and Design of T-Mobile's Core Messaging Complex. Support lab and FOA validation of new features and services for messaging applications and platforms. Lead multiple technical projects throughout design and implementation phases. Provide detail for feature integration, future design and roadmaps for the messaging environment in T-Mobile's GSM and IMS networks. Provide technical leadership; develop strategy, architecture, detailed design and standards adherence of new features, technologies and platforms. Provide insight and in-depth technical analysis both fiscal and technical to T-Mobile's leadership team and senior engineering staff. Responsibilities include coaching and mentoring technical leadership and junior engineering staff.

Job Requirement:

Core Messaging Systems, Detailed Design, Architecture and Standards and Implementation

Provide detailed roadmap for messaging futures insuring that all messaging service types are considered in these designs.

Collect requirements for messaging services from various business, design, development and operations teams.

Create RFI/RFP/RFQs for new technology, support vendor evaluations, test vendor solutions in the lab, lead technical discussions, obtain input from cross-functional teams and make recommendations for purchase.

Develop detailed design specifications and plans including: implementation, testing and back out procedures for network and security technology implementations, upgrades and modifications.

Create network (IP/SS7) designs to achieve optimal fit and smooth integration for hardware and software.

Specify strategy, architecture, detailed designs, and standards for messaging technologies according to T-Mobile's standards.

Evaluate new and emerging messaging technologies that will serve as business enablers or drive expense reduction.

Conduct vendor product comparison, analysis and recommendation.

Drive vendor roadmap to ensure T-Mobile requirements are adequately met and close any development gaps.

Drive vendor for timely delivery of SW/HW and systems features per T-Mobile requirements.

Monitor and influence relevant industry technologies and standards. Document options and impact via research and creation of technical papers. Coach and develop T-Mobile leadership and cross-functional teams on technology and decisions.

Functional/Technical Skills:

Extensive breadth as well as depth in technologies and solutions T-Mobile uses to provide messaging services.

Recognized subject matter expert with in-depth understanding of wireless technologies, network architectures and concepts with ability to develop, articulate, and influence technical strategies and policies across cross-functional organizations.

Must have expert level hands-on experience in messaging technologies including SS7, IP, SMPP, SIGTRAN, DIAMETER, 3GPP (ITU and ANSI) OMA and IMS technologies.

Be pro-active and creative in identifying business challenges and matching innovative solutions to these challenges.

Have the ability to act as the technical lead for large projects (12 months, in excess of %2410M).

Excellent technical writing and communications skills to engage various levels of individuals including senior leadership.

Must be conversant in T-Mobile%27s choices of wireless access technologies including GSM, GPRS, WCDMA, 802.11 and must understand the implications of supporting these access networks.

Individual must be self-motivated and work well under pressure with minimal supervision, be able to prioritize and manage time effectively. They must also have good interpersonal skills and be able to build consensus across multiple teams. Must also possess business operational awareness and maintain an open mind toward changes in duties and environment.

Thorough knowledge and understanding of common LAN/WAN technologies and transport methodologies.
