Principal Environmental Planner- San Diego

Job Description AECOM has an immediate opening for a Principal Environmental Planner . The selected individual will focus primarily on varied and important energy projects in southern California. Ideally this position will be based in San Diego, but AECOM is willing to consider other southern California locations as well. The Principal Environmental Planner will be responsible for client development and management and senior-level program management, with opportunities for supervising environmental project teams and proposal teams composed of staff from multiple AECOM business lines. We are seeking a respected CEQA/NEPA professional with extensive experience on large-scale energy and transportation projects to help develop business in this sector, lead related planning and environmental projects, and have a positive impact on the office's strategic direction. Skill Requirements: - 10+ years of experience in environmental consulting or public sector environmental regulation - Strong past experience leading CEQA/NEPA, permitting, and/or environmental compliance on major energy (with recent experience in renewable energy (esp. solar))and/or transportation projects. - Demonstrated staff leadership and mentoring skills. - Strong relationships with key clients and/or regulatory entities (CPUC, CEC, Caltrans, etc.) - Demonstrated track record of successful BD and comfort with a BD goal of $1-2m annually . - Develop and effectively manage scopes, schedules, and budgets. Develop innovative solutions to problems. - Strong writing, communication, and analytical skills are required. This position requires regular and effective management of staff, sub-consultants, and client interaction. - At least 10+ years of increasingly responsible CEQA/NEPA experience with public planning agency or consultancy - Relevant experience, either managing or participating in preparation and processing of CEQA and NEPA documents, including EIRs, EISs, IS/MNDs, and EAs. Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Studies, Planning, or related field. MS/MA preferred.
