Principal Job in Sydney 2000, New South Wales Australia

Principal
ST LUCY’S SCHOOL

Principal
Commencement date January 2013
The School Board is seeking to appoint a new Principal following the announcement that Ms Jo Karaolis will step down after 10 years of outstanding leadership.
Established in 1938, St Lucy’s is a Dominican co-educational Catholic school which is a leader of innovation in the education of children with disabilities. The school has grown significantly in recent years to its present enrolment of 167 students and has a total staff of 66.
It includes satellite classes at St Joseph’s and St John’s on the northern beaches. The curriculum is based on the NSW Board of Studies syllabuses and requirements, but St Lucy’s strongly embraces the Reggio Emilia philosophy of education, giving its children the opportunity to express themselves through many modes of communication. This philosophy makes the Creative Arts central to its curriculum.
St Lucy’s is a training centre for teacher’s aides from other schools and provides specialist support to its sister-school in Wilcannia.
Reporting to the School Board, the Principal is leader of a vibrant school community in which parents, staff and students work collaboratively to achieve the best results and outcomes for all. As a mission of the Dominican Sisters of Eastern Australia, St Lucy’s is a place of joy and beauty where the uniqueness of each individual is celebrated within a united community. The principal is called on to inspire and challenge the community in fulfilling the school’s commitment to excellence in the education of children with disabilities.

We anticipate that those interested in the role will be able to demonstrate:

the ability to lead and promote the spirituality and mission of St Lucy’s and the Dominican charism

a career in education including at least five years of leadership experience

an interest and desire to work with children with disabilities combined with empathy and understanding of young people

strong organisational skills and leadership ability

a pastoral approach, with a compassionate, caring style

highly developed interpersonal, communication and presentation skills

evidence of continuing self-development as an educator through professional studies as a participant and a leader.
