Principal, Lead Economist – Asia recruitment
Prudential Investment Management (PIM) is one of the largest investment managers in the U.S. with $901 billion of assets under management. Prudential Fixed Income (PFI) is the largest asset management group within PIM, managing assets of over $335 billion, which include government, mortgage, and asset-backed securities, municipal bonds, corporate and high yield bonds, bank loans and emerging market debt. PIM manages investments for a wide variety of domestic and international clients, which include public and corporate pension funds, institutional and retail investors and Prudential's general account.
The Lead Economist for Asia will be a member of the Global Macroeconomic Research Team at Prudential Fixed Income and report to its Chief Economist. The economist will primarily be responsible for covering Asia, but is also expected to contribute to the coverage of other economies, as needed. The economist will be responsible for regular updates on regional developments. Moreover, the economist is expected to liaise closely with portfolio managers to forge a common view on key developments in order to facilitate macro-driven investment strategies. More specifically, key responsibilities include the following:
- Formulating the macroeconomic outlook, including for growth and inflation, fiscal developments, monetary and external developments.
- Assessing sovereign risks and providing sovereign ratings.
- Following pertinent political developments pertaining to the region.
- Providing an outlook for FX, interest rates, local and hard currency bond markets with a view to supporting alpha generation.
- Developing macro-economic themes, drafting occasional thought pieces, and covering developed markets, as needed.
- Supporting portfolio management, including for Global, EM, HY and HG.
Travel responsibilities as needed to support research and networking efforts.
Skills
- 10 or more years experience, preferably with experience at a policy-making institution.
- Ph.D. or MA in economics required.
- Strong analytical skills and proven writing skills.
- Hands-on experience as macroeconomist across a range of emerging markets.
