Principal Mechanical Engineer - Coventry

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join an innovative company in a key role. This is a permanent position and a key position within the organisation.

Purpose of Role:

The Principal Engineer is responsible for the Mechanical Design of New and existing products (including optimisation and VA / VE), and for the day to day running of the departmental Solid Works CAD PDM systems.

Reports To: Chief Engineer Mechanical Design Development

Role Responsibilities:

Design of Mechanical systems for new products and the optimisation of existing products (including cost-down VA/VE activities)

Feedback of progress and potential issues to internal external customers in a timely manner

Provide technical leadership of a small multi discipline team

Contribute in all areas of the product development, verification and the co-ordination of its manufacture and test

Main Duties :

Lead (Hands on) a small multi-disciplinary Engineering Design team, mentoring coaching junior members

Define, plan run suitable design engineering activities in accordance with development, manufacturing, commercial, legislative and market needs on time and within budget

Support Problem solving within the multi-discipline team to produce reports and documentation regarding development and quality status of the product, processes and procedures

Ensure Design office software architecture remains current

Implementation of Design Office Best Practice

Required Qualifications Experience:

5 - 10 years experience in a relevant role

Expert user: 3D-CAD modelling, including FEA

Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant Engineering discipline

Experience of Mechatronic Systems and complex assemblies requiring precise alignment accurate motion control

Experience in all aspects of product development test requirements, implementation and reporting

Proven experience of NPI into low volume manufacture

Excellent communication skills

Computer literate, Windows based applications

Desirable Skills Experience:

Experience with printing equipment / paper handling machinery

Recent experience with Solid Works CAD package

Salary £40-45k + excellent benefits.
