Principal Network Engineer – Trading Firm recruitment

Essential Responsibilities of the network engineer:

•         Plans, designs and implements network equipment, including Juniper routers and switches, Netscreen firewalls, Wireless AP’s, etc.

•         Responsible for developing configurations necessary to implement or modify network changes.

•         Responsible for supporting/troubleshooting the network to identify and resolve network related issues.

•         Proposes and implements network enhancements (software and hardware updates) that will improve the performance and reliability of the network.

•         Develops and evaluates network performance criteria and measurement methods.

•         Prepares the analysis of the capacity needs for switching, routing transmission and signaling.

•         Conducts network architecture design, feasibility and cost studies.

•         Evaluate technical requirements for projects to determine the impact to the network to include equipment, redundancy and capacity requirements.

Minimum Professional and Technical Skills of the network engineer:

•             5+ years experience as a Network Engineer. (8+ years preferred)

•             6 to 9 years of progressively responsible experience in designing, implementing and supporting large scale LANs/WANs both Domestic and International

•             Knowledge and experience designing and managing WAN environments with extensive experience with WAN protocols such as Frame Relay, HDLC, PPP, Multi-Link PPP, T1, DS3, MPLS, SONET(OCx), DWDM and encrypted tunnels over public/private networks.

•             Ability to use and understand tcp dumps and/or packet captures to troubleshoot complex communication problems

•         Possess a clear understanding of capacity planning in various scenarios. (Single/Redundant Circuits, Load Balancing, Aggregation, etc.)

•             Posses a solid understanding of the technologies and their relationship to the OSI Model.

•             Ability to write scripts in some administrative language (Tk, Perl, a shell) is a plus.

•             Extensive knowledge of Network Monitoring and Management tools such as HP Openview, Zenoss, etc.

•             Experience designing and supporting large scale Enterprise LAN/WAN infrastructures using Juniper hardware, with emphasis related to the financial services industry is a plus.

•             Experience in designing, implementing and supporting networks and the various protocols associated with VoIP based on Cisco Technology.

•             Advanced experience in designing and configuring all types of Juniper hardware and Netscreen products a plus.

•             Knowledge of additional network products from various manufacturers is a plus.

•             Extensive experience with interior and exterior routing protocols with advanced knowledge of BGP.

•             Experience with various technologies used to deliver highly redundant networks on all layers of the OSI Model.

•             Experience with network security platforms and technologies such as Netscreen and IPS/IDS.

•             Skilled at documenting designs and policies associated with networks.

•             Strong network trouble-shooting skills

•             Ability to analyze information and draw conclusions on performance and trends

•             Strong communication skills.

•             Excellent interpersonal skills and able to work on a team.

•             Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.

•             Works well under pressure.

•             Manages time effectively and according to priorities.

• CCIE is a plus but not required.
