PRINCIPAL PERFORMANCE ENGINEER

GENERAL SUMMARY This is a position in the Disk Library for Mainframe (DLm) performance engineering group within the Backup Recovery Systems (BRS) Division of EMC. The candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and analyzing DLm stress tests and performance tests based on typical mainframe use cases. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter who is highly productive with little supervision. He or she must be well organized and have the ability to thrive in a very fast paced environment Role and responsibilities: · Based on an understanding of mainframe tape use cases, design system level stress tests that will ensure the quality of products prior to release. · Specify and implement all aspects of the test infrastructure, including equipment, topology, applications, and test cases. · Develop automated test and reporting infrastructure so at any given time members of the DLm project team can get a dashboard view of the status of the systems under test. · Be actively involved with the root cause analysis and resolution of performance problems. This includes recreating customer found issues and working to provide a timely and satisfactory resolution for these issues. · Effectively communicate testing activities and results via oral presentations, written reports, and technical documents Education and Experience: · Bachelors or Masters in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent discipline. · 6 - 8 years of experience · Experience working with Mainframe tape or tape replacement solutions is highly desirable. Technical Skills: · Mainframe experience including JCL · Mainframe application experience (i.e. DFDSS, HSM, Syncsort, etc) · Knowledge of performance and scalability testing for enterprise class solutions · Experience in planning and developing system workloads that will stress system performance and expose performance or QA related issues · Knowledge of storage and storage related technologies including VNX, Data Domain, SAN and NAS. · Understanding of Linux · Symmetrix experience a plus. · Perl/Shell scripting experience is a plus.
