Principal Process Development Engineer Job in San Jose 95113, California US
Associate will participate in the collaborative development of methods and tooling for fabrication of micro-optical Telecom products. Involvement may begin at any step from alpha fabrication, beta pilot production to full-scale manufacturing. Associate will work closely with a Process Tooling Designer and other product design engineers to specify and develop tooling, needed equipment, and fabrication methods. The associate will help integrate processes which may contain vision systems, semi-automated alignment, process tooling, in-line test and monitoring, and closed loop control of fabrication processes with firmware control systems in Labview or C++. The associate will use and evaluate fabrication tooling, suggest improvements and develop associated work instructions. The associate will generate, compile and evaluate test data to determine appropriate limits and variables for processes or material specifications. Programming ability for instrument and tooling control is needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for developing fabrication processes for new products, improving processes prior to GA, or sustaining GA product in manufacturing.
The position requires technical leadership, innovation, and ability to influence teams. Requires working with related functions (Product, Test, QR), as well as with the NPI team and customers. - Creates new processes and techniques for manufacturing micro-optic products
- Helps develop process control system via firmware developed in Labview or C++
- Works with Process Tooling Designer to develop manufacturing methods
- Participates in new product design decisions to enable successful fabrication
- Develops PMEA support product FA
- Leads process continued improvement activities when necessary
- Works cross-functionally on NPI products and continuous improvement.
- Communicates between RD production
- Provides training and support to technicians
- Defines project plans and identifies and takes the necessary actions to complete own and project tasks
- Effectively manages teams and resources
- Multiple projects may be managed at one time.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS degree in Optics or Mechanics, and 5 years of relevant working experience in a related industry
- Experience using electronics and measurement and test equipment preferably with Telecom devices and modules.
- Knowledge of Optics, Electronics, Mechanics, and Materials is essential with experience in automation. . Experience and proven track record of collaborative product and production development is essential. - Good understanding of mechanical engineering, automation, process capability and some knowledge of electronics.
- Ability to program in Labview or C++ to control instruments and/or tooling.
- Ability to apply PFMEA, Failure Analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE).
- Ability to apply knowledge from other products, processes and applications to the problem in hand. - Specific technical skills may include die bonding, wire bonding, seam sealing, splicing, epoxy application, etc.
- Knowledge of or awarded Green Belt in DFSS desirable.
- Experience with HALT and HAST.
- Strong verbal and written English skills, including the ability to read and comprehend complex instructions and technical materials in English
- Ability to work effectively in an international team environment across different time zones.
- Ability to apply statistical analysis tools such as sample statistic, descriptive statistic, statistical hypothesis testing, normal distribution, distribution charts, histograms, SPC, trending, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, factor analysis etc.,
- Position requires some intermittent travel internationally during process transfers or maintaining processes.
