The Principal Programmer Analyst will join an E-commerce team tasked with planning, managing and operating the Staples.com site of the future through innovation and by being able to quickly implement ideas. The vision for this team is to bring world-class e-commerce expertise not only to Staples.com but also to our other web businesses in North American and globally across 26 countries over time. Responsibilities: The Product Database (PDB) is responsible for the successful daily generation of the product Catalog for the Staples.com website, one of the most successful E-commerce sites in the world. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong skills in creating and/or modifying highly complex programs, modules, routines, scripts, and data objects from a detailed design where performance, efficiency, and reliability affect a major portion of the system and where standards and innovation are maintained in the support of the PDB and related applications including the PDB Manager (GUI Tool) Catalog Load processes, and various datafeeds. The candidate will evaluate requests and advise the business team on technical solutions to ensure that the website continues to provide a strategic platform for growth for Staples. Additionally, the successful candidate will demonstrate strong research and analysis skills in the resolution of reported issues and in identifying opportunities for improvement. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to understand complex interaction and potential impact to upstream and downstream applications and to ensure that solutions and new requirements integrate seamlessly with existing technologies. The candidate will review and analyze customer requirements and be proficient in applying System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies. Though no direct reports, this position begins to manage, mentor, and coordinate resources on assigned projects and be responsible for and/or participate in the coordination, support, and maintenance efforts of the development team to ensure customer satisfaction and to develop a broad and in-depth knowledge of Staples business processes and system environments. This position will serve as Technical Lead for all Support Track efforts for the PDB and Staples.com. There will be a strong emphasis on clear and consistent communication and coordination between this position and business partners, other technical leads, and management. Strong organizational skills are a must. The successful candidate will have a thorough knowledge of application systems and collaborate in the execution of development initiatives, project plans, and project management. A Subject Matter Expert (SME), strong team contributor, take charge individual, self-motivated, and business oriented. Ultimately, the successful candidate will be able to assume a technical leadership role within the team. Basic Requirements: 6-8 years relevant work experience Strong application development skills including: Active Server Pages (ASP), ASP.net, Strong database development skills including: TSQL, MS SQL Server 2005/2008 - DB2 a plus Preferred Requirements: Good working experience with web technologies including XML, HTML, and AJAX Good working knowledge of Windows platform - Unix platform a plus Working knowledge of JAVA, JavaScript, and J2EE a plus Excellent written and oral communication skills Excellent documentation skills Excellent customer service skills Excellent analytical skills Strong time management skills Strong organizational skills Experience with Source Control and Change Management processes a plus Education: Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience.
