The Role

The key responsibility of the Principal Consultant in the Algo Risk Service Advisory group is to lead the effort to provide senior level functional expertise to new or existing clients using the Algo Risk Service (ARS). 

This involves interaction with the sales, pre-sales and project management teams to identify and pursue consulting opportunities with Algo Risk Service clients.

Development and presentation of Algo Risk workshops to front and middle office users as well as C-level executives.  The capability to explain industry best practices and methodology is very important.

The role requires expert level knowledge of financial instrument modelling, scenario based analysis and standard risk methodologies.  Experience and comfort with these techniques is important.

Involvement is required at all stages of project implementations, from definition through to acceptance testing while working within a multi-disciplinary team of integration engineers, developers, project managers and other financial engineers.

Responsibilities

   Providing expert level advice to clients on use of the Service for various firm-wide risk management strategic objectives.
       Assisting clients in financial validation of complex risk models as implemented via the ARS platform and the documentation of the assumptions and techniques used.

      Consulting with clients to understand risk best practices and methodologies.  Proposal of creative solutions for functional gaps in a client’s risk management process.
       Research, specification and validation of new enhancements to the ARS platform as implemented in client environments.

     Provision of guidance and mentoring for new team members and other Financial Engineers.

       The role is based at Algorithmics’ London office. Some short-term travel can be expected to client sites in Europe as well as annual visits to Algo’s Toronto head office.


Competencies and Skills

      Strong theoretical understanding of financial economics, financial mathematics and  statistics.

     Strong practical knowledge of investment markets, financial market conventions, and risk management practices.  Previous risk analysis experience benefits the role greatly.

      Strong presentation and communication skills; Strong command of English, both spoken and written. Must be able to convey complex ideas to a variety of functional and technical audiences. 

       Strong, demonstrative investigation and problem solving skills.

        Familiarity and comfort with a technical environment involving Unix, shell and Perl Scripting, Java and C++ language development and Oracle database infrastructure.

       Willingness and ability to travel

Education

       University degree in the field of Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics or other quantitative discipline.

        Advanced degree in Financial Engineering or Mathematical Finance is beneficial.

       CFA, PRMIA or FRM designation(s) beneficial.

Work Experience

       Extensive financial industry related experience working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
