Principal Software Engineer
The Principal Software Engineer is responsible for designing and developing software that meets the needs for all solutions across PORTIA business. The Engineer should have solid knowledge and experience in the areas of software design and development, as well as database design, development, and reporting. The Engineer will be responsible for reviewing business requirements and functional design deliverables and leading technical design as required throughout the software development lifecycle. The Engineer will work with Solution Architecture, Application Development, and Quality Assurance resources to build and test application software during the implementation phase. The Engineer should have a well-established understanding of the financial services industry and ideally software solutions created for the buy-side. Strong interpersonal skills will be required as this individual will work closely with all areas of Product Development, Solution Architecture, Application Development, Quality Assurance, and Integration and Deployment on application development efforts.
The incumbent for this role will:
- Lead and provide hands on support for creation and documentation of technical requirements, detailed design, and prototypes for entire project or specific project modules
- Define and review development project estimates, assumptions, and work breakdown for entire project or specific project modules
- Lead and provide hands on support for process of translating requirements and functional and technical design into relevant code and unit tests for entire project or specific project modules
- Proactively identify, communicate, and resolve issues in technical design and code construction. Lead code review planning and execution efforts
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other senior and junior team members across project or within area of expertise
- Lead delivery of high quality releases to market on time with planned functionality and adherence to written specifications delivery standards
- Contribute to definition and adherence of PORTIA specific technical design and coding best practices
- Act as a resource/mentor to Application Development team for design and development topics
- Work with Quality Assurance to provide necessary input for test scripts

- B.A. / B.S. in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering
- 9+ years experience developing software (2+ years experience in a financial environment, 5+ years experience in C#, .NET development)
- Strong desktop (WinForm) and web application (ASP.NET) development experience using Microsoft Visual Studio.NET 2010Strong experience with the following technologies: C#, ADO.NET, XML, XSLT, T-SQL, HTML, IIS, MS SQL Server
- Strong experience with one or more of the following technologies: WCF, WPF, WF, Silverlight, Appfabric
- Experience in coding patterns and practices in MVVM, CAB, and/or PRISM architecture
- Experience designing and building applications for an existing commercial software products
- Strong verbal, written communication skills, strong interpersonal and presentation skills
- Strong business analysis, critical thinking, and documentation skills
- Proficient in writing and optimizing T-SQL code and stored procedures
- Experience with working on multiple projects simultaneously and with teams on large scale, long-term projects
- Work with Architecture team to provide high quality technical design and code implementation in an Agile Scrum environment
- 5+ years experience in the Financial industry, ideally with experience with portfolio management applications
- Experience with the following technologies: C,C++.COM/DCOM, Sybase ASE, SSRS, SSIS, SSAS
- Experience with XP, Windows7, Windows 2008 R2 Operating Systems
- Experience with Infragistics controls
- Experience with other database systems: Sybase, Oracle
- Experience with ADFS/WIF
- Microsoft .NET Developer Certification
