Job Description:

JPSS is seeking a highly motivated Lead Systems Administrator to provide Systems Administration, management and direction for the JPSS Common Ground System.  The JPSS program is developing the next-generation weather satellite system. Raytheon is developing, operating and sustaining the Command, Control, and Communications Segment (C3S), the Interface Data Processing Segment (IDPS), and the Field Terminal Segment (FTS). The Lead Systems Administrator will eventually supervise sustainment IT/Systems Administration activities at five operational sites, coordinate operations at up to 17 ground stations and manage as many as 15 personnel.  This position is located at the new NOAA Satellite Operations Facility (NSOF) in Suitland, Maryland.  The Lead Systems Administrator is the senior IT representative at the site and has responsibility for the management and performance of the JPSS operational sites in achieving the mission goals. Responsible for access to all NPP/NPOESS computer systems (Windows/AIS/Linux) per OS directives and monitoring of system performance. The Lead SA is the lead member of the IT portion of the Mission Operations Team. The Lead SA has the responsibility to ensure that all computer and storage resources are configured and maintained to the system baseline and to lead troubleshooting and restoration activities in the event of resource failures. The Lead SA will also monitor system usage logs, trend and analyze data on system resource usage and reconfigure the system as necessary to ensure the highest levels of availability for operations.

 

The Lead Systems Administrator may delegate certain responsibilities to other MST personnel but in general has the following roles and responsibilities:

 

-Network hardware and software

-Organizational-level maintenance

-Coordinating with CLM staff at Indy

-System configuration

-Computer access control

-Database and partition management

-Work with vendor (PBL) repair teams to restore system operation.

-Responsible for servers, routers, switches, firewalls and other network hardware and software. 
-Also responsible for monitoring network usage, intrusion detection logs, and troubleshooting network anomalies.
-
Attend Work Request Review Panel meetings.

 

This position will require periodic travel to various locations both in and outside of the Continental U.S.

 

The Lead Systems Administrator is normally an 8X5 position but will need to support various mission activities which will require a flexible work schedule, off-hours, weekend and possibly holiday support depending on mission needs.

Required Skills: 

3+ years TCP/IP network administration experience in a Cisco environment. 

Proficient in configuration and maintenance of Cisco switches, routers, and firewalls.

Ability to analyze and troubleshoot networking issues and provide user support.

Knowledge in Network Management System (NMS), preferably in HP OpenView Operations for Windows (OVOW) and Network Node Manager (NNM).

Technical knowledge in the field of network security.   

Possess an understanding of networking fundamentals, LAN/WAN technologies, the ISO 7 layer model and TCP/IP, and WAN and data communications systems and protocols.

Exposure to or experience with Internet routing protocols, including BGP, OSPF, IGRP, and static routes.

Experience in day-to-day maintenance and management of operational networks in an operations environment.

Work with MPLS WAN provider ATT to resolve complex network problems.

 

Desired Skills: 

System administration experience in a Microsoft Windows*® environment. 

Satellite operations facility experience.

Cisco ACS server configuration and maintenance experience

Cisco certification a plus

Microsoft certification a plus

 

Required Education (including Major): BS Degree in Computer Science, Computer Technology, Math, Physics or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent work experience) and 4-6 years relevant work experience in a technical environment.
