Principle Hardware Engineer (Controls)
Location - Stafford
Salary - £40000.00
ALSTOM GRID UK Ltd - Power Electronics HVDC and FACTS,Staffordis an international leader in Power Electronics and Control Technology, specialising in the engineering of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Transmission Systems, Static VAR Compensators (SVC) and other FACTS Systems for power utilities worldwide.
The Role
- Capture requirements, Design, Implement/Specify and Test Control System Hardware
- Technical supervision and coaching of less experienced engineers
- Lead in "Best practise" in development methods
- Present technical solutions to the management team and non-technical business leaders
- Deliver validated solutions to agreed timescales
- Represent the business in technical discussions with customers and suppliers
- Effective collaboration with other engineering disciplines and team members
- Reviewing other team members work and providing feedback
- Fault finding, analysis and documentation
The Person
- Proven experience of complete Hardware Design Process
- Proven experience of FPGA development using Handel-C, VHDL or Verilog
- Flexible working - Comfortable working in both rapid development environments and formal methods environments
- Optical Communication Experience
- Schematic Design
- Board Layout
- Multi-layer board design
- Analog and Digital Electronics Design
- Working knowledge of design for manufacture
- Comfortable specifying and testing solutions in a COTS focused environment
- Experienced in best practice for all aspects of Hardware Engineering
- Understands the value of, and is able to produce, High quality Documentation
- Version Control - Subversion, ClearCase, Synergy or similar

2:1 Bachelor's Degree in relevant subject area or vocational qualifications and extensive relevant experience
- Masters or PhD in relevant subject area
- Working knowledge of Safety / Mission Critical Design
- Experienced in Deployment from Matlab, Simulink and Stateflow
- Process Improvement Experience
- Awareness of Control Theory
- Fluent in French
