Principle Optical Engineer Job in Greenlawn 11740, New York US
Optical systems engineer responsible for the conducting product design, development, manufacture, and test of complex EO/IR optical subsystems. The position works closely with the optical system design team to ensure affordable and producible optical solutions meeting end item performance, environmental and cost requirements. This is a hands-on, hardware oriented position requiring expertise in the areas of:
Optical design and analysis, coatings, component mounting techniques, end-to-end manufacturing and producibility requirements and assessment from the component level through completed system; environmental testing; optical component vendor support; system assembly, alignment and test techniques.
The position will work closely with junior engineers, senior engineers, and technicians in the design, assembly and test of optical subsystems. This includes both passive and active systems operating the UV/Vis/IR regions under stressing military and aerospace environments. The position is also responsible for defining and implementing special tooling and test equipment, and facility capital requirements in support of the optical engineering organization.

Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering or similar technical degree or equivalent experience,Employees in California must have a Bachelor's degree in the applicable field, or an applicable certification, equivalent certificate or any required license. Equivalent experience will not be considered.Required Skills:
1. BS Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or related field. 2. Eight (8) years of relevant experience in hands-on engineering and/or manufacturing. 3. Five (5) years optical test and alignment experience including Interferometric metrology. 4. Proven track record in the design, development and test of optical systems for military/aerospace applications. 5. Familiarity with other engineering disciplines such as mechanical, thermal, structural and electrical and their interaction with optical systems. 6. Experience leading complex multi-functional design projects which contain technical and/or financial challenges. 7. Proven track record in working with the vendor base to ensure requirements are met on time and within cost. 8. Design for production experience.Preferred Skills:
1. MS Optical Engineering, Physics or Electro-Optics. 2. Experience with CODE V and/or ZEMAX a plus. 3. Fifteen (15) years experience in optical/electro-optical engineering design and manufacture. 4. Experience in Missile Seekers, laser designators, LADAR, Hyperspectral sensors, and threat warning systems. 5. Matlab experience
