Private Placement Analyst recruitment
Summary
The primary focus of this position is the origination of new private placement debt investments and the continuous review of the existing portfolio. This position will require a wide variety of skills, including credit analysis across a broad spectrum of industries and a familiarity with covenant structures, various note structures and the legal documentation that supports them.
The secondary focus of this position is to assist in the review of new limited partnership investments with a wide variety of strategies, including leveraged buy-outs, mezzanine debt, energy and others. This will require an analysis of the general partner’s qualifications and track record, the attractiveness of the opportunity and it’s relative risk/reward.
Key Responsibilities
- When considering new private placement investments for inclusion in the National Life Group portfolio, the analyst will review offering memorandums, conduct company and industry research, listen to management presentations, review covenants and terms, consider portfolio diversification requirements and consider the relative value compared to other alternatives.
- Following a commitment to purchase notes, the analyst will attend due diligence meetings, either in-person or via conference call, review legal documentation in conjunction with lender’s counsel, prepare a write-up and attain committee approval, if necessary.
- Monitor the existing portfolio with the objective of identifying deteriorating credits and assisting with the quarterly pricing of the portfolio
- Review of quarterly financials, analyst research, rating agency reports and various news sources for information regarding the specific companies, as well as their industries
- Respond to requests for consents and amendments, and participate in problem loan/workout discussions, as necessary
- Develop and maintain working relationships with various sources of new private placement issuance---critically important to maintaining adequate deal flow and assuring fair allocation treatment when deals are oversubscribed
- When reviewing new limited partnership investments, the analyst will consider the qualifications of the general partner and it’s track record, the attractiveness of the market opportunity and the return potential relative to the risk incurred.
- Monitor the existing limited partnership portfolio by reviewing quarterly reports and attending annual meetings
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
- CFA designation highly desirable
- Experience in private placements or similar fields, including bank lending is required
- Must be able to travel both domestic and international in order to attend due diligence meetings, maintain banker relationships, participate in borrower hosted lender meetings and attend partnership meetings
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check which may include fingerprinting
