Process Engineer

 

 

Brief Description of Position: 

 

The Senior Process Engineer is responsible for planning and implementing process optimization and improvement projects associated with the chemistry, software, and hardware used in the emulsion manufacturing process at Mallard Creek.  The Senior Process Engineer applies engineering skills and experience to develop design parameters, evaluation and justification of equipment necessary for optimization and improvement of the process.

The Senior Process Engineer aids in process modifications through process computer program updates.  This position also works in conjunction with the RD Department in scale up of new products.

Specific Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
 

·         Provide troubleshooting and problem solving support as well as response to routine operational issues and questions to 24/7 operation.

·         Responsible for maintaining control of production recipes in Process Control and ERP Systems.

·         Responsible for monitoring daily production and adjusting recipes to maintain products within specifications with consultation from Research and Development and Technical Service.

·         Investigates individually, or leads multifunctional teams in investigating and troubleshooting process deviations, solving the problem, and recommending and or implementing corrective actions as appropriate to prevent recurrence.

·         Responsible for product development and process definition.

·         Reviews process recipes as received for scale up for accuracy and manufacturability.

·         Participates in or leads new product process reviews during scale up process.

·         Defines production specification based on process capability and customer requirement.

·         Assists project engineering in developing justification for preparation of AR’s or requests for engineering or technical assistance.

·         Responsible for the design, estimation, and implementation of process control capital projects.

·         Recommends and may coordinate implementation of process changes to effect cost reductions and quality improvements.

·         Evaluates the utilization of materials, manpower and equipment for optimum efficiency and productivity, with lowest cost for existing and proposed installations.

·         Conducts process improvements and yield study analysis.

·         Participates in and may lead programs relating to process control, process development, operator training and others as assigned.

·         Assists in coordination of scale up and optimization of new and existing products.

·         Evaluates the need for and implementation of process control computer program changes.

·         Assists in preparation of the capital budget related to process control projects.

·         Participates in conducting of EHS and PSM reviews as needed.

 

 Education:

 

Minimum of B.S. in Chemical Engineering is required.

 Experience:

A minimum of 3-10 years experience in field of Process Engineering is required.  A minimum of 3 years experience in project, and for process engineering, in a batch organic chemical or emulsion polymerization environment is preferred.  Experience with latex emulsions is required.  Proficient working experience with process control computers and batch programming language is required. Personal qualifications should include an emphasis on trouble shooting and problem solving.  Good communication skills both written and oral to technical and non-technical personnel are required.
