An excellent career opportunity is currently available for a Process Engineer within the Process Plants Technology Center of UOP's Process Technology Equipment (PTE) organization located in Des Plaines, IL. The Center's main function is the design, supply and commissioning of pre-fabricated process systems to the refining and petrochemical industry, specifically Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) and Membrane Systems. This position will play an integral role in supporting the design, estimating and sales support for the Center's PSA Membrane Systems projects. Position responsibilities: Sales Support (75% of the position's focus will be in this area): • Primary focuses to be in revamp sales support for PSA and Membrane units. • Produce process solutions that meet customer project objectives, as communicated by sales. • Complete benefit / risk analyses to identify optimum design options. • Produce process solutions in the proposal phase that can be smoothly handed off for project execution. • Participate in customer meetings as assigned and agreed with Sales. • Prepare and maintain customer support material to be used by sales, including tech sheets and boilerplate presentations. • Prepare budgetary cost estimates and when needed, firm cost estimates. Project Services (25% of the position's focus work will be in this area): • Perform the basic engineering design including Piping Instrumentation Diagrams (PID's) for customer projects. • Size piping and control valves and perform hydraulics. • Work with equipment vendors on specifications and procurement of equipment. • Complete assigned project work per the agreed budget and schedule. • Keep Project Manager informed of progress on assigned tasks. Bring any problems with man-hour overruns or schedule delays to the Project Manager as early as possible. • Attend and participate in project team meetings. • Contribute and participate in customer meetings as assigned and agreed with the Project Manager. • Application of current design practices and tools for completion of assigned tasks. • Document all calculations and work processes in a clear, concise format. • Adapt UOP design standards and procedures to meet project-specific requirements on assigned design tasks.

 

Basic Candidate Requirements:
• A Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering is required. • Minimum of 2 years process engineering experience in the field of Refining, Petrochemicals or Gas Processing industry is required. Additional Candidate Requirements:
• The ability to complete moderately complex to complex assignments is needed. • Capable of applying a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures. • Ability to independently carry out varied assignments that may require modification of standard procedures and devise new approaches to problems is key. • Capable of working under limited to minimal supervision. Technical guidance is available for unusual or more complex problems. • Should be capable of using independent judgment and decision making. Decisions may be reviewed but are usually accepted as accurate. • Ability to provide guidance to assist in training less experienced engineers, together with the ability to provide advice on technical problems is preferred. • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications and presentation skills are desired.
