Summary
To evaluate existing plant processes and modify or configure the manufacturing systems to improve efficiency, cost, safety, quality, reliability, yields, and production rates. To identify, develop, design, and install projects and processes that meet these goals while also meeting industry and company standards of operational excellence. The Process Engineer 1 has 0 to 3 years of experience. They primarily solve simple problems and typically manage very minor capital projects or small well defined pieces of larger projects. They typically require a lot of guidance and mentoring and their assumptions must be reviewed for accuracy by a more experienced engineer. The Process Engineer 1 will not be capable of determining the relative priorities of their projects without the guidance of their supervisor. The Process Engineer 1 will work a slower pace than more experienced engineers, often times consulting their more experienced peers for ideas, concepts, or assumptions that can be used to improve their designs. They usually serve a support role in teams and often spend time learning the production process, how equipment operates, and the typical process safety concerns present in a manufacturing environment. The Process Engineer 1 requires training in root cause analysis, Process Hazard Analysis, Management of Change, Process Safety Management, Mechanical Integrity, environmental rules, and OSHA law.
Job Duties
- Provide entry level engineering expertise to production and process optimization, troubleshooting, data analysis, and technical support to the operations organization.
- Design and implementation of new processes and/or equipment upgrades.
- Work with senior level engineers to identify improvement opportunities, develop a plan to achieve these in a cost effective and timely manner, sell the plan to management, deliver on agreed upon commitments.
- Assists in improvement initiatives, projects, and process optimization teams to deliver specific, focused, time bound improvement objectives.
- Assist with capital project assignments, as necessary, to support plant improvements.
- Provides support to operations for Process Safety Management.
- Assists RD, technology, and plant chemists in reviewing, writing, and revising manufacturing instructions for new and revised production processes.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, Chemical Engineering.
- Must possess a strong technical/problem solving aptitude and be data driven.
- Proven ability to solve problems.
- Strong verbal and written communcation skills.
- Strong proficiency with microsoft products (word, excel, powerpoint).
