Summary

To evaluate existing plant processes and modify or configure the manufacturing systems to improve efficiency, cost, safety, quality, reliability, yields, and production rates. To identify, develop, design, and install projects and processes that meet these goals while also meeting industry and company standards of operational excellence. The Process Engineer 1 has 0 to 3 years of experience. They primarily solve simple problems and typically manage very minor capital projects or small well defined pieces of larger projects. They typically require a lot of guidance and mentoring and their assumptions must be reviewed for accuracy by a more experienced engineer. The Process Engineer 1 will not be capable of determining the relative priorities of their projects without the guidance of their supervisor. The Process Engineer 1 will work a slower pace than more experienced engineers, often times consulting their more experienced peers for ideas, concepts, or assumptions that can be used to improve their designs. They usually serve a support role in teams and often spend time learning the production process, how equipment operates, and the typical process safety concerns present in a manufacturing environment. The Process Engineer 1 requires training in root cause analysis, Process Hazard Analysis, Management of Change, Process Safety Management, Mechanical Integrity, environmental rules, and OSHA law.
