Horizon Oil Sands
Horizon Oil Sands is an exciting part of our growth. Full production capacity for Phase 1 is 110,000 bbl/d of fully upgraded, light, sweet synthetic crude oil. We will see incremental production gains throughout the completion of future expansion and debottlenecking, with targeted full facility capacity of approximately 250,000 bbl/d. Further phases of expansion will bring the ultimate capacity to 500,000 bbl/d.

This position is based in Fort McMurray, Alberta and is eligible for:
Relocation to Calgary or Fort McMurray

Position Summary
THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Process Engineer will play a critical role providing support within a multi-disciplinary engineering environment for the successful commissioning and start-up of our Horizon Oil Sands plant expansion.
The key focus for this role is to provide core engineering support to existing operations and process support to:
Engineering
Regulatory
Environmental
Major Projects
Production Planning
Contribute your expertise working with the following:
Design and Operation support experience in Amine Treatment Unit, Sour Water Stripper, Sulphur Recovery Unit, Tail Gas (SCOT) Unit
HOW WILL YOU MAKE YOUR MARK?
The successful candidate will utilize their previous hands on experience and analytical abilities to assist in establishing the foundation for forthcoming Horizon phases.
Utilize your solid background in process engineering to work with the Upgrading Process Engineering team
Continuously use your technical expertise and practical experience to troubleshoot, improve efficiencies, and provide advice
Predict, identify and resolve processing issues
Provide process support to operations, provide day to day operating guidelines and oversee optimized operations, engineering development of "in house" capital projects
Provide key guidance for commissioning, startup and ongoing plant operation
Stay up-to-date with latest Regulatory /Environmental requirements and strive for operational excellence in these areas
Support the development of operating guides and manuals, training manuals and operating procedures
Support factory and site acceptance testing of control equipment, construction, pre-commissioning, start-up and operation activities
Review contractor deliverables for accuracy, suitability and compliance with the engineering design specification and applicable standards
Foster a productive and open communication with other groups including the EPC contractor, other Upgrading project teams and other business units.
Assist in safety, environmental and quality audits
QUALIFICATIONS:
Typically 5+ years related industry experience in refining, chemical or oil sands facilities in combination with Engineering degree
Registration or eligibility for registration with APEGA as a Professional engineer in Alberta
Familiarity with and understanding of:
o Amine Treatment Unit, Sour water stripper, Sulphur recovery unit, Tail gas (SCOT) unit operations
o Working on mega-projects as well as within operating units
o Processing engineering tools such as process simulation models and heat exchanger sizing programs
