Role Summary/Purpose
The Plastics Process Improvement Engineer owns quality and improvement of plastic molding processes. Provide immediate response to production issues identified on the shop floor. Be visible on the floor and own quality improvement and problem solving activities for the specified area of production processes – key metrics include: Defect Reduction, First Pass Yield, Operating Equipment Efficiency.
Essential Responsibilities
• Live, promote and teach the GE Production System philosophy and drive continuous improvement in the technical process areas of a specified production process Direct problem resolution to appropriate team member (i.e.: Quality Inspection Engineer, Purchased Material Quality) after identifying root cause issue. • Drive improvement actions list for accountability and process improvement. Must know and align activities to support operational goals and objectives of the business and translate them to the team. Prioritize problems and escalate issues. Specifically, drive to maintain a partnership with our shop operations personnel to promote a team that reacts aggressively to factory inefficiencies. • Promote Safety Culture and ensure team’s compliance with safety rules and procedures, such as: PPE compliance, accident investigation within 24 hours, Safety Contacts and safe start participation. Support Business Leader in accident investigations to obtain root cause and drive required changes. • Monitor first pass yield data to drive robust processes upon start-up • Define and monitor process parameters on and ongoing basis to minimize defects; drive projects which eliminate defects • Drive to ensure improvement of molding processes and tooling to attain capable designs • Manage area Quality documents and procedures to attain and maintain agency certification (e.g. ISO). • Support shop floor start-up, assist team leaders to ensure proper start up procedures and quality plans • Create and document visual management of Quality activities and metrics on the shop floor • Create and drive a shop floor problem escalation process • Communication: Follow communication process, Facilitate team meetings, drive communication with teams, yokoten (follow-up communication) • Train and Mentor Business Team: Process Improvement Engineer must know and understand all quality plans and items in area. Must coach and educate workforce in plastic processing behaviors to identify and resolve common process anomalies. • Perform as internal customer point of contact to respond to abnormalities and drive containment, corrective actions and resolution.
Qualifications/Requirements
• BS Technical degree or comparable experience required• Six Sigma training / Green Belt Certification, or similar demonstrable statistical process control background• Minimum of 3 years experience in manufacturing, operations and/or quality roles• Proven ability to influence and drive change • Solid verbal/written communication skills coupled with strong interpersonal skills – this job requires building strong team rapport on the shop floor and at all levels in the organization• Advanced computer skills - high proficiency in Microsoft products (especially Excel) and ability to grasp new systems quickly• Strong project management and analytical problem solving skills with demonstrated ability to scope and analyze cross-functional problems to generate and implement solutions• This is a 3 shift operation – flexibility for significant off-shift work is required• Some travel may be required
