Located 125 miles southwest of Houston, Alcoa Point Comfort Operations supplies alumina -- the compound from which aluminum is made -- to Alcoa's global production system -- the largest network of refineries and smelters in the world. The Process Improvement Engineer will report to the ABS Manager, US Primary Products. The primary purpose of the Process Improvement Engineer is to support improvement efforts at Point Comfort and other US Primary Products (USPP) locations, while developing high-potential candidates for more challenging operations/engineering positions within the Business Unit, within the next 12-24 months.
- Major activities/Key Challenges:
- Support primarily Pt. Comfort Operations, secondarily other USPP locations as a change agent by driving process improvement and sustaining systems such as, Lean Manufacturing, Alcoa Business Systems (ABS), Reliability Excellence (REX), etc.
- Work with plant personnel to identify high-impact improvement opportunities
- Analyze the problems and impact
- Develop and test solutions
- Sell the solution to the plant personnel, implement and sustain the improvement
- Document the impact
- Assist plant personnel in improving problem solving capabilities across the organization.
- Support location efforts to achieve benchmark performance.
- Participate in improvement activities at other GPP locations.
Positions may be filled by JG 14 or JG 16 depending upon experience, education and qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Openings exist for either of two levels of experience:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, GPA of 3.0 or better
- Internship(s) in a manufacturing operation
- Proficient at MS Office Suite
Level 16
- Bachelors degree in Engineering
- 3-5 years experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience in, or strong knowledge of, Lean Manufacturing Basics
- Proficient at MS Office Suite
Both positions require the following:

- Financial knowledge along with the analytical skills to determine and understand the impact of a process on the bottom line
- Possess the confidence and ability to present your conclusions in a winning way
- Must be willing to relocate initially to the Pt. Comfort area and after 12-24 months, relocate to another USPP location
