Process Metallurgist

Carpenter is seeking an experienced remelting metallurgist for a position at a new green-field manufacturing operation scheduled for start-up in 2014. The initial assignment will be located in Reading, Pennsylvania and focus on activities associated with existing ESR, VAR, annealing, and material prep operations and procedure design for the new plant. Within the next 30 months, the position will relocate to the new plant at a location in Huntsville, AL. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Development of procedures for ElectroSlag Remelting (ESR), Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR), material preparation, and in process annealing cycles.
- Internal and external qualification of new remelting, material preparation, and annealing procedures/equipment for Carpenter products.
- Disposition of non-standard and non-conforming material. Process controls and support of Customer Audits.
- Technical interface with manufacturing operations, business unit, and technology organization within Carpenter.
- The position will have a focus on nickel, and specialty steel products for aerospace applications.
