Product Control Specialist recruitment
PEAK6 Investments is currently seeking an individual to help lead our Product Control team. This role supports all internal views of profit and loss in order to compile the daily PNL and month end valuation reports for our trading businesses. Strong valuation experience across a variety of asset classes is essential, process orientation is critical, a history of creative thought and follow through on projects is absolutely necessary, and attention to detail a must. This individual will help lead efforts of a growing team and be responsible for designing, building and implementing state of the art product control and valuation processes for our proprietary trading and hedge fund businesses.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, analyze, and resolve daily PL outages (T+1) resulting from trading activity, corporate actions, expiration/maturity, dividend and interest income/expense, execution costs and security master mapping. Communicate directly with stakeholders on resolution, and log errors for future analysis.
- Assist in daily revenue reporting to Senior Partners. Propose improvements to process and timing.
- Communicate daily PL difference between internal and clearing firm to accounting for review
- Secure, verify, adjust and upload daily closing prices across a variety of security types
- Drive and support trader level monthly profit and loss verification process
- Prepare month end valuation reports for management review
- Develop and improve analytical capabilities for valuation of equity, equity derivatives, fixed income and OTC trades
- Manage initiatives within product control relating to process improvement and automation. Work closely with stakeholders (Front and Back Office, IT, Risk, Research, Support and Finance) to continuously improve PL accuracy and implement global valuation tools
- Review counterparty websites/data configuration files for improved mapping against P6 internal views (avoid price mismatches, trade mismatches etc.)
- Develop various problem decomposition and reconciliation tools as needed
- Assist in automation of all manual or partially automated processes
- Respond to ad hoc inquiries from traders and managers
- Adapt to rapidly changing requirements
Job Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Computer Science or related field
- At least 5-7 years in or supporting Operations or Middle Office/Product Control with experience in research, structuring or pricing equity, options, fixed income and OTC products
- At least 5 years experience working for a bank, hedge fund, proprietary trading firm or hedge fund administrator
- Proven experience in process improvement analysis and working with technology to automate processes and create permanent solutions to operational problems
- Strong business analysis and project management skills
- The ability to work independently; self motivated, and proactive in achieving individual and team objectives. Must be able to self manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Microsoft SQL experience required
- Strong excel skills required
- Exceptional problem solving skills; interest in strategy games a plus
- Previous experience working in a highly competitive and dynamic environment required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to articulate views clearly and concisely
- Must have strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently through obstacles
- Able to proactively work toward a goal without significant structure or rule
