Department criteria:

Equities Product Control at Nomura is primarily responsible for understanding, substantiating and controlling the daily trading balance sheet and Profit Loss across all EMEA business lines i.e. Executions Services, FO, Principal Trading, Convertibles, Derivatives, Prime and Delta 1. The main functional responsibilities include: production of a comprehensive daily PL and balance sheet, ensuring that the appropriate accounting principles are applied, partnering with the Front Office and other support groups in facilitating new products and initiatives and developing and reporting management accounting information to the business. This involves a close working relationship with the Front Office as well as all primary support partners including Operations, Technology, Risk Management and Legal. Equities Product Control is a team of 30 onshore controllers with support from a team of 30 dedicated product controllers in Mumbai.

Role description:

The successful candidate will be working within Equities Product Control team producing the Equity Structured Notes PL and providing cover for the Funds Derivatives business.  The role entails analysing and reconciling the desk PL on a daily basis whereas montly tasks will involve independent verification of pricing levels and the calculation and analysis of Reserves as part of the full Balance Sheet ownership. The successful candidate will have to liaise with the Senior Traders to reconcile any differences or discrepancies and also be confident in dealing with Risk Management, Operations and Legal departments to resolve issues.

The primary objectives of the role are to ensure the team:

• Maintain and develop best practice controls around both PL and balance sheet

• Maintain strong networks and communication across all functions that support and control the Structured Notes business, including Market Risk and operations.

• Assist with issue resolution on a variety of subjects ranging from accounting to trade capture and valuation

• Provide information and support to business management and traders

You do not need previous in house experience and candidates looking to make their first move from practice to investment banking would be considered.

Key objectives critical to success of the role:

• Implement Nomura’s ongoing programme of control enhancements within the Equities space

• Build strong relationships with the business and other support departments

Skills, Experience and knowledge required:

• Qualified ACA (or equivalent)

• Understanding of accounting principles for financial products (experience of US GAAP preferred)

• Basic knowledge of investment banking business products and processes

• Appreciation of Equity Derivatives

• Strong Mircosoft Office skills
