Product Design Engineer

 

Summary of position:

This position entails the design and development of new and existing products that will lead to increased efficiency and competitive advantage for our Industrial Service’s operations. The position will require a high level of research into competitive product offerings and current job-site/customer practices as well as detailed design calculations and concept generation. The incumbent will be expected to communicate with staff from all departments/levels, as well as with manufacturers and customers.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

 

·         Performs well in all phases of the product development cycle i.e. specifications, conceptual design, final design, testing and product launch.

·         Assists with development of design specifications and criteria as well as the determination of project goals/milestones.

·         Prepares detailed structural analyses and calculations necessary to ensure the optimum/safe design of new and existing products in accordance with national and provincial/state design and safety codes.

·         Utilizes traditional 2D Cad and 3D modeling software for conceptual development and production of fabrication drawings.

Co-ordinates the production of prototypes, develops testing plans for evaluation of prototypes, manages the execution of the product testing program and stamps test results.

·         Participates in the development and production of supporting technical documentation for new and existing products. 

Assists in the training of staff with all matters related to new product introductions.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education and/or Experience                                             

·         Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering.

·         Professional Engineer or eligible for full registration.

·         Minimum five years of working experience in engineering design development, preferably with heavy industrial equipment.

·         Previous experience with applicable Canadian, US and international regulations and specifications.

 

Communication Skills                     

·         Excellent written and oral communication skills required.

·         Able to create professional level technical documentation such as, test reports, specifications, procedures and product data sheets.

 

Computer Skills                                           

·         Excellent knowledge of 3D modeling, AutoCAD, engineering software such as FEA, MS-Office.

·         Knowledge of project management software will be an advantage.

·         Experience with desktop publishing software such as Adobe In-Design.
