Product Manager

POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

JOB TITLE:                   Product Manager – Protective Eyewear 

REPORTS TO:              Director Marketing

  

POSITION SUMMARY: 

 

The Product Manager establishes the strategic direction for assigned product lines and, working with other functional teams, coordinates all activities related to revenue and profit generation. 

 

1.      Responsible for developing and maintaining a thorough understanding of the marketplace for assigned products including knowledge of  multiple distribution channels and customers, including end consumers; competitive products, programs, pricing, and policies; key industry and consumer trends.       

2.      Develops both short-term and long-term product and program strategies for each product line.

 

3.      Coordinates the Marketing Department’s market research and marketing communications activities for assigned product lines. 

 

4.      Defines new product needs and directs development activities of engineering, purchasing and other resources.

 

5.      Actively supports the company’s various selling organizations through the development of periodic sales plans.

 

6.      Actively involved in sales and customer service training.

 

7.      Assists in the development of customized programs for major customers. 

 

8.      Develops and maintains pricing and sales policies that secure the company’s growth and profitability.

 

9.      Manages product lifecycles for each assigned product line, including rationalization of obsolete products. 

 

10.    Is the caretaker of assets related to assigned product lines including inventories and capital equipment.

 

   

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, minimum of five years experience within in the optical industry, with a complete understanding of the channels of distribution.  Excellent written and oral presentation skills are important to effectively communicate with and sell to customers.  A high degree of flexibility is required in order to be able to respond quickly to market changes and the varying and changing needs of the Marketing Department.
